It's amazing how 99% of the people that learn japanese as a second language are insufferable, It's either normalfags that say stuff like "japan isn't just anime!" while localizing anime/manga the wrong way or sweaty autists that spam the same shitty "you can't learn japanese" meme every single day and give money to japanese women pretending to be 2d girls on youtube

Neither of them actually help others to learn japanese, the max they'll do is throw a website with a "guide" that barely helps you
"dude uhhh just memorize these scribbles for a while then read this book"
"ok how many at a time? should I do it 100 or 1000 times before adding more? when can I go to katakana? when can I read Tae Kim's guide? when do I start Anki? how?"
"uhhhh you can't learn japanese!!"

And these people don't even contribute to the otaku community by translating stuff, they just watch vtubers/read 2chan all day, this is why only normalfags who pay 8000 dollars for a japanese course are learning japanese lately, japan will be filled with braindead westerners and it's your fault for being a sad troll

yes I know there are excepetions, but this is the majority

>Learning japanese is only hard because of the people who teach you
I'm not your teacher. I'm just a guy posting in an American anime imageboard. I don't even have a name.
>Neither of them actually help others to learn japanese, the max they'll do is throw a website with a "guide" that barely helps you
Again, I'm not your teacher. Take a class or buy a textbook, or use the guide we recommend. Or you know, don't do any of that and don't learn Japanese.
>"ok how many at a time? should I do it 100 or 1000 times before adding more? when can I go to katakana? when can I read Tae Kim's guide? when do I start Anki? how?"
You have to be 18+ to post on 4chan. We can't tell you how much to learn and when, you need to study at your own pace. What if you're a NEET and you have 10+ hours for studying Japanese every day? What if you're employed full time and can only study 30 minutes? We don't know that. Also, Tae Kim is for absolute beginners, read it now, and he links resources for learning Katakana and Anki.
>And these people don't even contribute to the otaku community by translating stuff,
Are you referring to fan translated manga and anime? Isn't that illegal?
>they just watch vtubers/read 2chan all day
yes
>this is why only normalfags who pay 8000 dollars for a japanese course are learning japanese lately, japan will be filled with braindead westerners and it's your fault for being a sad troll
I don't follow your logic here. Why are normalfags "braindead"? Isn't it a good thing (for the economy, birth rate etc) if Japan gets filled with normalfags, rather than creepy otaku weirdos? I don't understand.

I'm sorry it's like this for you anon. I was forced to learn 3 languages growing up and luckily one of them is chinese so I can grasp kanji much more easily, but it still takes effort to get it down pat.

On the other hand because of vtubers I gained the desperation to learn it from scratch through djt, duolingo and just really focusing on streams and using google translate to mime words they utter that I do not know and it works. Progress is fast, and only as fast as how desperate you are to learn the language then you won't care about the people who thumb their nose at you.

It's your fault for going to the threads.
The guide has literally all the steps you need. It may seem hard at first, but you'll be surprised at how much you'll learn in 6 months.
Start reading/listening to native stuff as soon as you can. Learning can be boring, but it doesn't have to, so remember to have fun.
Also, studying EVERY DAY is of paramount importance.

Nah, kanji is relatively easy, for me the big problem is the limited number of unique sounds. I think most people who hit the intermediate level stick to reading or give up entirely because of all the homophones in Japanese, and how similar sounding everything is.

>the big problem is the limited number of unique sounds
I don't mind that very much, since you can figure out what the word means based on the context.
Although not the most difficult, the one thing that drives me mad in Japanese is how some words can be written in a bunch of different ways using different kanji.
I know the meaning and pronunciation of the word, but because I haven't seen it written that particular way before, I can't figure out what it says.
叡智, 叡知, 英智, 睿智 and 英知 are all the same goddamn word.

>> No.33656915

I gave up on the hope of ever being able to read small font/low resolution/handwritten kanji. It's not a matter of "lmao just keep on practicing faggot", no matter how much I look at some of them, they will still be unintelligible bunch of pixels/shades. And since this is the type of kanji represented in about 90% of real-life scenarios, there's no use to carry on.

There's no such thing as "crippling" yourself, it's an absurd concept invented by the mouthbreathers in /djt/. You don't have to learn kanji readings right away but it is very helpful to learn onyomi, especially later on with kanji compounds. After a while you will be able to easily remember onyomi just from the shape/pattern of a kanji. Kunyomi is a different animal and can only really be acquired through vocab.

If you are doing rote kanji study using keywords, then just start writing (one of) the onyomi alongside the kanji. Eventually you will start to see patterns.

>>33670901
You basically have to know the word to begin with. The only hard and fast rule with regards to kanji reading that I'm aware of is that okurigana always signifies a kunyomi reading (which is borderline self explanatory) but a lack of okurigana indicates nothing, it can still be either.
