Is there a place to buy aftermarket DD/SmD parts to make them better at posing? I know the discontinued Obitsu60 body can hug her own knees, but it's hard with DDs and SmD suck from the waist as far as range of motion goes.

Not sure about a DD in particular, but I had a DD sized pkg stuck in jp for 6 months as I wasn't wiling to pay 260 for dhl. Luckily fedex opened up recently for a much more managable price of 60. I think the difference was due to cost calculations by weight vs dimensions and since DDs dont weigh much it could be cheaper than you think if other options are available to you.

Oof, good luck OP, kimono are innately tiddy-unfriendly. Since the side seams are covered by the sleeve/hakama and white's easy to color-match, could you open up the side seam and add a 1-2cm wide strip of fabric in there to get some extra width? If it's got serged seams and no lining you should be able to just unpick the factory stitching and redo it by hand.

>> No.33522138

I've only ever bought a few fullset dolls, if you can believe it. Almost all of them were put together over time or gotten from the aftermarket. Custom DD heads, customized Smart Dolls, weird customs as people downsized collections... it happened over quite a few years.

>> No.33522233

>>33522138
I think I can understand that feeling. I only have one doll, premade at that, but with something else I frequently indulge in creating characters piece by piece. It's exciting to see them come together. You spend a lot of time putting one together, but after the fact you can't wait to get started on the next one.

>> No.33522375

>>33522233
Yep, you understand. I've gotten a lot better about narrowing down my interests over the years, at least, and that helps me moderate my own collection habits. "Do I really like this or do I just think it's cool/cute/weird?" Once you get past the knee-jerk reaction towards something, it becomes easier to evaluate it from the perspective of someone who has limited space and resources. With one notable exception when a rare doll hit the market and I immediately snapped her up after a long time of fruitless searching, I make myself sleep on any big purchases as well, and if I have anything more important to do at the current time (i.e. replace a car part, a big upcoming bill, etc) I will pass. I usually find peace in knowing that it's the right choice, but a few times I've missed out on dolls I really did want after all. You learn to live with those feelings, though -- and sometimes if you get lucky, you find them on the secondhand market.

Still, there's always that feeling of "okay- what next?" to contend with, like you said. I've actually found waiting months for something to make it through shipping to be positive during the pandemic, as it gives me something to look forward to. But I think, at least for now, I'm satisfied with how things are, and with a few exceptions, I'll be able to handle keeping my collection around this size. Just have to redirect the wandering eye to the things I already have and instead of thinking 'what next?' think, 'where do I go from here?'

My venue so far has been those 3D porn games, of all things. Basically you're building virtual dolls and then posing them however you want before taking some photos.
The end experience surely is very different but I'd advise anyone stuck in such a mindset to give them a try before things get too out of hand.

Of course, ultimately nothing beats learning self-retrain and diverting impulses into more productive matters.

I'm not going to judge, avatar makers can be a lot of fun and with the rise of things like vtubers and websites like picrew, I think a lot of people are fond of things like that. These three are cute, anon, my favorite's the tan girl on the left. What game, I want to make some now too -- or do you do all the 3D modeling yourself? It won't turn out like vitiligo, vitiligo has two distinct colors (base color + pigmentless albino) with clear margins. It'll turn out like grungey tie-dye. Who are your favorite faceup artists?
I’m thinking about getting a custom girl but don’t know where to look.

I stumbled across Shinesworkshop and they seem to have the best quality amongst all the english speaking artists. However I don’t really feel comfortable sending my daughter off to china

Shinesworkshop is great, but generally you don't send them the head, they have their own stock/order from Volks to avoid all that. If you are looking to send off a doll you already own, @x3ash on Instagram does amazing work, but getting a slot can be hard, she only does a few a season. Look around on Instagram under #faceupcommission and #customfaceup and you can find some other artists.

I can also recommend x3ash, she did my Anastasia (pic related, leftmost). She's based in Australia though (at least she was last time I was in contact with her). I can also recommend @ladious666, they rescued my Rise (pic related, middle) after a less than fortunate encounter with a different artist. They're based out of China though. Another recommendation goes out to @wakazato_san, does amazing work. Not sure what their availability looks like these days though.

Hi doll friends. I collect mostly 1/6 and 1/12 dolls. As for BJDs, I have a Dollfie Dream and some resin slim MSDs. 1/3 was WAY too big for me, and I will be selling my Dollfie Dream to a friend. I love the size of my 1/4 dolls, though. Could any MDD owners answer a few questions for me?

>Do you have any resin BJDs in this scale? What's the weight difference, or is there not really one to speak of?
>What are your favorite clothing stores? I've noticed normal MSDs are way easier to shop for than slim MSDs (which have a lot to shop for but a lot of downright trash tier clothing to sift through) but didn't know where to start.

My resin MSDs are a little meatier than my MDDs, but not by a terrible amount. I usually get stuff off of Taobao shops, or I try to find outfits for a good deal on Mandarake or Dollyteria.
My two MDDs are custom heads and I love them! Only one of my MSDs has mods, and I did buy him specifically for them.
With all my dolls, I usually have to swap wigs and eyes around a few times before they really click with me... and then I'll swap em out every so often anyway for funsies.

It depends on a few of things. If you're taking a new legit head and having a custom faceup of the character done, you're fine. If you have a new legit head and can find an artist who will do an exact copy of a faceup (harder than it sounds) you'll be in a grey area, but most people will be cool with it. If it's a recast (unauthorized reproduction) head and an exact copy of the faceup, that's very taboo and most other forums will straight ban you for posting or asking about them, and most hobbyists are opposed to the practice.

The frame screws are stainless, so the only concern is rinsing with potable water afterwards and making sure no standing water is left in the doll. If you separate the shoulder, hip, wrist, and ankle joints it'll drain fine and you can dry the parts in front of a fan. (It'd be a bigger issue with a strung BJD or an old-style DDI with internal elastic, because the nylon covering the elastic loses strength when wet.)

I buy secondhand dolls, so I'm used to disassembling them down to the frame for cleaning. There is no photogenic body of water I would rate as dirtier than the homes of some of the dudes who sell to Mandarake.

TTYA has a lot of pants and shirts kinda thing, but they do have a much more femme lean to them. Your best bet to fine what you want is to look for each item individually with the look you want in mind.
