The way Rena kills Rina in Tsumihoroboshi was slightly disappointing to me. Rina is the one that goes for her throat and Rena has to fight in self-defense, and then Rina dies by trying to climb a slope, falling and breaking her neck. I think it would have been more impactful if, at some point, Rena were the one initiating the aggression and going for Rina's throat, and she should absolutely had delt the final blow to her head.

Higu does the unreliable narration differently from Umi. it tells lies like "there's a needle in the ohagi" or "Mion is holding a syringe" without giving explicit signifiers that what you're seeing is in the character's head... because Higurashi isn't trying to present a fair mystery, but to showcase the character's psychology, how they make decisions, how they rationalize them, how they miss-remember their actions to protect themselves from feelings of guilt and so on.
Rina's death works out so neatly to exonerate Rena from the crime she was set to commit that it at least strongly calls the literal reading of that scene into question. Of course that isn't the same as proof.

Satoko has lost it. Satoshi is one of the only loose ends from the original, he's such an obvious choice to use him as part of Satoko's motivation that the only reason I can think of that they didn't use him is because it would be too obvious. 22 episodes in, 5 of those post 1983, and we aren't even sure what happens to him that's how irrelevant he is. From Satoko's goodbye I assume he never recovers or just straight up dies and this will be the last we see of him. He could still miraculously show up at the end to save everyone from Satoko after the cliffhanger but that's being extremely optimistic about his prospects.

The dumb thing is that the whole Satoko vs Rika thing could have worked much better within the context of the first 8 episodes. As everyone and their mother pointed out already Matsuribayashi was a flawed fragment, not just "an ending people didn't like" but rather an ending that wasn't written with the purpose of it being good. So initially it looked like there was a lot of potential given factors like Satoko's personality in Higurashi and not learning certain lessons leading to what Gou supposedly is. However the execution was disgusting and it makes me wonder if it's more coincidental, and R07 wasn't even thinking of that at all. Like he might legitimately have forgotten about Rika not remembering Minagoroshi and that's a very awful possibility. It's like by chance he followed on a similar path and then he fucked it all up.

If Satoshi dies or never recovers after Matsuribayashi then apparently Satoko was never told about him being held in the clinic due to HS, you could read the goodbye scene as Satoko finally finding out what happened to him. Or if she was told about him she was able to accept him being bedridden/dead for him to not be a factor in her looping. Comparing saving her brother to the actual reason for looping, Satoko's priorities seem off. Satoko's goodbye is literally her saying goodbye forever. Satoshi will never recover so Satoko levaes him behind and continues with her plan to trap Rika in 1983.

There is a second possibility. If Satoshi DOES recover he was never mentioned because he wasn't important and we can reinterpret Satoko's goodbye. In this case she is saying goodbye because she is sentencing Satoshi to be stuck in a coma until Rika's will is destroyed. Believing this second case requires Shion levels of Satoshi cope.

I think it's pretty difficult to conclude that Satoshi recovers. Satoko is still living together with Rika in 1987, so if Satoshi does recover, Satoko doesn't move back in with him to the Houjou house. Sure she could still live Rika if Satoshi returned or maybe she lived with Satoshi until he went to high school or something. He is never mentioned post 1983 so this is all very unlikely.

Maybe there is a miracle in some future fragment were he recovers and saves everyone, but this is still just cope.

I think Higurashi Gou could have been better if it was in VN or short stories form. The anime failed at conveilling what Satoko feels and thinks, the direction is terrible and too straightforward, and the pacing is too fast in this arc.

In the story that leads up to Gou (and I think it was repeated in Gou during Tataridamashi as well) she won't abide this kind of thing. I feel like this should go without saying, but being exposed to insane abuse once does not mean that you're going to just be able to take it over and over because you did it already, likely it would make someone even more likely to crack under less, and Gou drawing attention to this again before depicting post-Matsuri Satoko going nuts is very much in line with this.

Even with Gou's pacing, this isn't how this went down at all and Satoko didn't really start breaking down until after she had "proof" that Rika didn't really care about her and was just lying to her. Prior to that she's shown as extremely agitated and ends up fucking with the other girls that already hated her guts, which she ended up regretting anyway.

And what is Satoko going to do with that information? Is she going to just come to terms with Rika leaving because she's been through all the loops? Also, Satoko with her illness definitely would be pushed to kill over something like Rika leaving her, especially in this self destructive manner where she starts out with the lovers' suicide bit and then killing herself over and over before moving on to more desensitized things. Satoko was already pushed to ruin a man's life over even less than that.
