Rule 5 in Umineko says Chinamen can do it. Rule 5 is the only seriously modified rule.
The only reason to modify such a rule, is to ensure your culprit is legal.

Other things that EP5 stated:

The detective can mistake what he/she saw, but can't tell a lie about it.
In other words, when the observer isn't the detective, scenes may contain his/her circumstances, wishes etc. But when the observer is the detective, it isn't allowed.

The detective of EP1-4 was Battler.

The detective of EP5 is Erika.

And it said we can find all of WHO, WHY and HOW, in EP1-4.

Dlanor use her rules to cut down Battler's blue when he was refering to the older episode as well. So I think it's implied that Knox rule probably will hold for older episodes.
