It might just be some hipster thoughts. Every song on Miku channel and popular producers worldwide like Mitchie M and Pinnochio-P will have a high amount of english comments (and japanese, though english will be upvoted more since more people will understand).

Maybe on less known producers it's a good signal that people who can understand it like it (and discuss it on youtube instead of niconico), or that the ones with more english viewers than japanese are usually using some marketing that affects westerners better than japanese, but I can't really see it.

If IA was released a few years earlier like 2008-2009 i am confident she would have surpassed Miku in terms of popularity. She has a unique design, clean and sexy voice, voiced by Lia who is a big deal among otaku culture...By the time she got released like 2012 or so it was already too late for Miku to lose her place as the eternal number one and no matter how good every new Vocaloid is, it will never be able to surpass Miku. IA could have if she got released a bit earlier. Change my view.

That's not a likely scenario, the reason why Miku had such a head start is because until she was released no one knew how brilliant of an idea she was, so every company trying to compete would have to start making their product from scratch (and few companies had the previous experience like Crypton had due to Meiko and Kaito), so of course it took a while for them to come up with a good enough voicebank (by the time Crypton also had others as well).

By 2009 Miku was already so iconic and dominant that it didn't matter, and Miku's design was a lot more fan creation friendly, just make a twintailed girl and you're done (by that reference IA is overdesigned, how would a IA Haku and Neru would be? What about all those Pinnochio-P mikus? Even KagePro has a miku look a like and no IA).

And voice quality (in a realism sense) never really mattered, which is why the new AI singers didn't even completely dominate over their own primitive vocaloid counterparts. We already have a lot of realistic sounding singers everywhere, but not many robots singing.

Would Lia be available at the time and accept some job from a no name company for an untested and unknown tech at the time (Saki Fujita was considerably lower profile)? Would the investors put the same money in the project? Was anything about IA influenced by all the vocaloids before and all the vocaloid community? Would IA V2 sound the same as IA V3? Would she inherit Miku's traits like leek and shimapan and become something completely different?

It's very possible that if Miku didn't exist there would be no Miku with a different look and singer, and the golden age of Vocaloids simply never happens. There is more to Miku than being the first (which she wasn't anyway).

I'm not used to dungeon synth having such melodies with synths but it was nice. My biggest problem with Mirai was mostly that the sound quality was never all that good on the 3DS, even with headphones. And the chibi style, while very cute and very appropriate for some songs, really didn't work with some other ones.
