I know that The Simpsons Movie opening weekend sales should be around $75,000,000. Total box office sales for it would be on the order of magnitude of about $500,000,000.
Not sure about 5 cm/sec side though.

I actually thought it was one of the best anime I've watched, but that's just my opinion.

Yes but Japanese animators frequently steal cels to sell because they get paid almost nothing for their work.

5cm/s was beautiful, but for some weird reason, I didn't cry at all. I've cried like a bitch at far less sad things. What the fuck is wrong with me?

>> No.3324591

>>3324579
Nah, I didn't cry either, I don't even remember it being that sad of a movie.

>> No.3324603

Seriously 5cm was a piece of overhyped, overproduced crap.
It's like Shinkai is only capable of writing one storyline for each of his works (girl and guy grow further apart, ohnoes how sad BAAAWWW).

He improves on this idea of "separation" each time he makes a movie, and through trial and error, he gets closer and closer to perfection in creating this one kind of story.
That's how I see it, anyways. You may be right, and I might be totally off on this, but I like his works.

>> No.3324642

>>3324579

I felt nothing either. Then again, it was the same for Shinkai's other films. They're all flash and no substance, so I guess a comparison with the Simpsons movie works.

His movies sure are pretty to look at, though. Same with his eroge OPs.

>> No.3324646

So wait. Why exactly did Simpsons require a budget of 75M when 5cm per second could do that with 270k?

>>3324646
Because we Americans grossly overcharge for our services.

>> No.3324658

>>3324646
Probably had a huge advertising budget. Maybe they took longer to do it, or had more specific standards on what they wanted the final product to look like?

I generally don't judge things by budget, though; just look at District 9.

to be honest.

I'm not familiar with the colors department, but wtf is with "but his color choices are brilliant". They just look really shiny and all to me. Nothing special.

>> No.3324858

It's mainly shit ton more staff working in the Simpsons movie compare to 5cm. Plus higher wages, advertisement and international release just like all American movies. Basically it's a larger production compared to 5cm.

Also 5cm was average. Badly written story, the only well done part was the first part of the movie. The people that thinks the story is good as a whole are the ones that can relate to it. Being able to relate what you watch amplifies or just a bonus that increases your enjoyment, it doesn't mean the story itself is good. And there are so faggots that think this is realistic but fails to see how grossly exaggerated the entire story is.

The only thing good are the backgrounds and a small use symbolism with the rail crossing, trains, cellphones etc.

>>3324479

What's the use in pointing out how shitty American animation is? Isn't it obvious? The Simpsons movie was shit and so is every other American animation within the last 20 years or so with the exception of a couple of brilliant CG movies. Generally if you want good American animation, you have to go back to mid-20th century work suck as Fantasia.
Hell even the Eurofags and Canadians create better animation with Les Triplettes de Belleville being a prime example.

I enjoyed watching 5cm, but I don't think it was quite tears worthy. A very pessimistic look at how quickly life can push people apart, yes, but not tears worthy no.
