whats the difference between an otaku and a weeboo?

>> No.3320396

Otaku is a person who is obsessed about something, its not just about anime.

A weeaboo is usually a westerner who is awed and jealous of japanese, and would like to be one

>> No.3320395

One is Japanese and other is American.
One is a social reject and other is a retard.
One hates the world around him and other loves the first one's world for no reason.

Otaku = Obsessive

THAT'S IT

There's anything ranging from gun otaku to anime otaku to train otaku. One similarity is that they all secretly want to have sex with the thing they obsess about.

Well, you ''shouldnt'' be. But nowadays ''weeaboo'' pretty much means a ''western otaku'' who is interested in anime, manga, (japanese) video games and such.
What it originally meant was a japanophile which is completely different from otaku.

Yeah. Thats why you say anime otaku when you want to refer to a hardcore anime fan.

>> No.3320592

Weeaboo has lost the original meaning of "wannabe Japanese", which has been transferred back to wapanese. Weeaboo now has no strict definition, and is often used to refer to people with a varying degree of interest in animu and the like, but I think a good definition would be "person who makes various hobbies related to Japan a large part of their life". 'Large' is subjective, but it's easy enough to leave up to individual judgment. Clearly someone who watches an animu movie once a month wouldn't count as one, but someone who does several times a week is.

everything eems more hard than i orginally thought...

like weeno = someone who cosplays, goes to anime conversions, listens to j-pop.j-rock ,trying to learn japanese and using words in normal speek(like desu) and refuses to use a fork. must have chopsticks.

also people who use anime to define themselfes as "special"

But i still suppose you can watch anime once in a week without beeing weeboo, just ,mildly intrested in japan.

I don't really like this kind of definition, because it's too hard to actually apply. What behaviors does being awed of Japan entail? What does wanting to be Japanese look like? Add to this people who call things that are Japanese weeaboo, regardless of anyone's reaction to it, and people who just use it as a generic insult, and the word loses most of its meaning.

To me, the only valid times to really bust someone for being "weeaboo" is when they are using Japanese words that I don't understand. I can't -really- justify this, I simply accept it as a way to deride someone who irritates me. Other than that, I guess you can call people who actively say they'd like to be Japanese weeaboo, but since I almost never see anyone do that, the term is kind of limited there.
