So I learned recently that the Japanese word for rabbit is 「兎」（うさぎ）, but after googling for a while it doesn't seem that there is a "traditional" word for bunny. What I mean by this is that unlike with 「犬」and 「猫」, you don't simply put 「子」in front of 「兎」to get bunny. Instead, the two most common words I could find are 「バニー」and 「うさちゃん」.

Does anyone know why this is the case? I believe other animals, like sheep, also use the 「子」"prefix", as in 「羊」and 「子羊」, so I just find it odd that rabbit and bunny don't follow that same pattern.

Felt like I've wasted time on RRTK

Literally have 115 cards left, but time and time again, I keep failing old cards after they reach about just over 1 month maturity. It's frustrating as fuck. Considering I've spent about 3 months smashing this deck, its so annoying to see a kanji I saw a month ago and completely forget it. I can bet that if I've failed a card, its going to have a 2.8 month mark above the pass button once I press the spacebar, it's always this level of card maturity that seems to slip my mind.

Focusing on 85% retention on a deck when you have a mix of kanji cards ranging from one day old to over 2 months old doesn't seem to work.

If I am continuously failing cards that are 1 month old or more, and passing the younger cards then of course my true retention for that day, or that week is going to be high since there are more younger cards per day than there are older cards (since I'm still going through the new cards and the population of older cards is slowly getting bigger).

I feel there should be a negative multiplication factor on cards once they reach a certain age so that the multiplication interval is slowed down a little to factor in long term memory loss.

Like seriously imagine (for the sake of brevity im gonna use a 2 times factor) learning a word (and you get it correct), then seeing it in 2 days, then 4 days, 8 days, 16 days, 28 days, 56 days. It gets out of control wayyyy too quickly after about the 5th stage of maturity. The jump from 28 to 56 is mental. It needs slowed down. Unless you start using the word often in daily life (which isn't happening with these kanji as I'm still a beginner) then it just does not make sense to me.

The other alternative is to reduce the size of the RRTK and simultaneously use a deck similar to the tango deck which would use all the Kanji learnt in the smaller RRTK. That way you solidify the kanji you learn in the RRTK by doing the sentence deck at the same time. I think it would improve the retention rate as opposed to focusing on RRTK, then after completing it moving into the tango deck.

My biggest regret is not starting the tango deck at the same time I did the RRTK and reducing the amount of cards learnt per day in the RRTK and splitting it between RRTK and Tango.

but then i can write sentences in response to the words without even really knowing what the sentences mean
