Yes, that's the idea. I was suggested to make a thread for all idols that fit into the category since the NiziU thread from before had too little fans to survive as a thread on it's own.

>Wow, it's been some time since I heard about them. Are they still doing fine?
While i don't know much about them, they're definitely still going strong. last year was their 10th anniversary and they had a live towards the end of this January

I kind of agree. Online lives are a nice extra thing but the fun of watching lives is the energy of the entire show between both the performers and the crowd. Gay socially distanced crowds where wota can't cheer and chant or the idols can't really interact with the crowds just leaves you with low energy performances that feel like they happen in a void.

It's for childish reasons actually, I'm a 48 Group fan and don't like how some girls are adopting the current k-popper look.

AKB and HKT's current popularity, which gets worse by the year, would be a huge downgrade from their current korean idol life and lead to problems with other members who wanted their shot in Korea but didn't make it.
It'd also generate problems with others because those three are gonna come back full of themselves

I've never liked Sakura and nowadays she'd be/is HTK's topppest of the top members and would automatically become the center of their world since Sashihara Rino graduated a little after I*Zone was born.
These two years without Sakura or the forced combo NakoMiku allowed other girls to shine and break the mold of what you'd expect from the group without Sasshi.

Thank you for reading my blog. Now please go support NMB48, they're the best.

>I'm a 48 Group fan
I actually wonder how people get into. Like actual curiosity, not because I want to. I don't think I've ever found a 48 (or 46) group where I thought the music was any good and everything about it just feels sterile. If I'm going to listen to a bigger group I'd rather stick with one like Ebichu that tends to produce pretty good music. FWIW having gone back and tried listening to Onyanko Club I think they sucked too. Akimoto's idea going back almost 40 years seems to be quantity over quality and I think the 48g groups (and again Onyanko Club before it) largely embody most of the negative stereotypes associated with idol more than any other group or agency.

Also as a personal preference I think 6-7 members is the max amount any group should have.

Yeah, the amount of girls and the amount of content they've generated over the years is insane.
I got into AKB, SKE, NMB, HKT and STU through their tv shows and watching streams of theatre performances live. It was at a point in my life in which I was not depressed but I was a huge NEET and had nothing to do so I could dive in fully into it, it's hugely time consuming, and even when I've had a real job for the last four years, I still follow the general state of the groups and the girl's sns, mobile mails and still have time for other hobbies.

Even after all these years I can name at least 70% of past and current members for all japanese 48 groups, which is a completely useless superpower but, whatever, I really like them.
For example, my favourite 48 sister group is NMB, which currently has roughly 49 members, and of all of them, I like/attention to about 20 of them, I don't care about the others, it's like they don't exist, but when a girl catches my eye during a performance and she's interesting, I'm in.

The music is mostly basic, specially the theatre only songs but some are very catchy and even if it's mostly mainstream music, it's very enjoyable. Though for me nostalgia plays a big factor in a lot of songs.
SKE's first 16 singles have great A and B sides, but most 48 music released in like, the last five years is really sub-par (specially AKB's music) except for very few exceptions.

At this point they're not even trying with the music, the only thing keeping 48 alive are the girls' activities on stream or sns and gravure.

This wall of text would be more appropiate for the AKB48 general but those threads are only gravure/meme posting/waifuing/jerking off.

i mean i was obviously joking but to answer the sentiment i think you're getting at which is a question of "how can anyone find 'XD random Japan' entertaining"? or "does anyone find her music tripe and shallow"? i have the following to say:

if you're pessimistic, you probably will be put off by certain cheap attention-grabber elements but if you honestly give it time for yourself to digest it you'll mostly likely become fond of her art.
the production is undeniably well crafted - even if it isn't your cup of tea it serves as a technical study and model to follow with proven success.

she also reinforces multiple scenes of music and art interaction such as fashion, music production, dancing, videography, lyricism, comedy, etc. her art addresses expression from all angles.

you're a stone cold stoic if this expertly-simplistic quick little major/minor key shift doesn't tug at your heartstrings: https://youtu.be/PFjuylGy_yA?t=168

As an Ebichu and 48g fan, if you are only into idols for the music like you seems to, you won't understand.

I just like music. Cute girls with quirky personalities (real or affected) aren't really rare, especially in the idol scene, so if I'm going to be into a group then they have to have music or performances that draw me in as well. It's why I tend to go for the more underground/alt groups since there's members that are cute or have personalities I like but I also really like the music and stuff that they put out too.

There is some good music but you have to dig for it, and that's not really the point anyway.

Honestly, that IS the main point, otherwise I feel like it would be easier to stick with seiyuu or something.

The thing about it is that you have to take these groups as a full package containing lives, real life drama, music, the yearly big events, variety shows, theater performances, SNS and everything else related. They thrive from their system/plataform which almost no idol group can have anything in the same scale.

About the music, Aki-P groups do have some amazing songs and performances but in most cases you gotta have the context to appreciate them. Songs are often written and performed in ways where the feelings of the idols and the fans turn them into something deeper/more special than regular idol music, as cheesy as this may sound. Even regardless of that, AKB stage albums and most Inoue Yoshimasa produced songs are some of the best idol music ever.
