Pocaloid is ok unless you use v2 voicebanks because these are not the same as the original. You want jp voicebank or english? Get Yamine Renri (Utau) who is free for jp or Eleanor Forte (SynthV) who is also free if you rather want english. Pocaloid isnt really worth it.

sorry if im being a bit down to earth here. i do not care about pocaloid and you're welcome to use it at your own risk. i have no idea where you can really find any reliable sources for it and i have no idea how to set it up. If i may, though, i would like to suggest starting off with using either utau or synthV with lite versions if you're that desperate to make music with vocal synths. right now, instead of worrying about getting the results you want, worry about being able to get the hang of things and having a crystal clear idea of how you feel about using vocal synths in general. plus, using utau may be easier to download and install.

as for differences, it's a matter of preference. some voice banks have better quality than others in terms of realism, but then there's also a matter of having some form of charm and distinction. utau may not too realistic and as high quality as other voice banks out there. but here's the thing: vocal synths, in my opinion, are not just about realistic sounding voices. this isn't about being able to replicate kanye west's voice or lady gaga's voice with near perfect results and in 10+ languages. instead, try giving this whole thing another approach by thinking in terms of how charming and distinctive the vocal synth can possibly be. the only reason why you would want to use realistic vocals is if you want to cater to the twitter audience as they expect their vocal synth singers to sound and act like 18+ adults and not children. who your audience is is your discretion.

I was half-shitposting, I listen to some producers that use flower and enjoy them. It's just they often have the same sound or vibe that feels a bit shallow. Edge without substance kind of thing. Also flower use, especially if they either use no other vocaloids or only Miku. gives me the impression they're just trend hoppers compared to producers that only use Miku or use some kind of wholoid. I would be honestly surprised if there are people seriously going audiophile grade solely for Vocaloid songs, it's super indie music recorded with amateur equipment or entirely synthesized (which lacks details of real life instruments and voice). >open the video file in Premiere Pro, export the audio as a .wav file. (even though the video's audio isn't wav quality i figure choosing wav is the only way to not further compress the source)

ty for letting me know that a GUI version of youtube-dl exists bcuz i thought it was command-line only. i'll have to look at getting that setup since at a glance command line youtube-dl can only get .m4a's from what i tried in 2 minutes of testing/research. saves a lot of everything to use your method.

I honestly think both flac and 320 kbps are unnecessary waste of space. I mostly have i think 128 kbps because i just rip from youtube using those sacred sites that rip it and they sound VERY good. I compared those to proper flacs and they sound same. Between 4mb or 25mb i prefer 4mb for what is literally same quality. I ripped 1000s of songs from youtube and they always sound great. Fuck flacs and wav, if i had all my music in lossless i wouldnt have enough space for half the songs i have.

most of my favorite producers always do albums (on FLAC and wav too for digital!) thankfully so it's not really a problem for me. but i don't think most vocaloid songs really suffers from low quality audio, like sure i would take a higher-res version if its available but except for some super niche things like vocaloid j-ambient, most of them are perfectly enjoyable on lower audio quality. bitrates hardly matters, the thing that really give sense of quality in my opinion is the mixing and on some cases, soundfonts.
i think crappy audio mixing and quality in old early era vocaloids are quite charming, you know that feeling when a producer remastered one of their works and it just doesn't feels the same? like sure it's the same piece of melody with "higher quality" but it's just not the one you like, it's not the song that you fondly remember, it's not the one that stuck in your brain for years, the crappy audio is a part of the song and when it's replaced even with an essentially better version, it's just doesn't feels the same.

Yes, the design is terrible, I kinda saw yukari as a laid back character who play games to kill time (not even a slutty character) and the new design clashes with that too hard.

About the voice, so far I prefer the overall tone of the original and I wasn't impressed by the AI factor, though of course I end up comparing my favorite sounding songs with the very few songs out right now for thee CeVIO AI version and there is a lot of nostalgia involved. I can only tell for sure with a lot more time.

It'd take a while to explain how I envision it, but I do not think in term of body and soul per se. I believe the universe is way more than what we can see, and what we are right now is attached to other "dimensions" you could say, so even if you kill yourself, these other ends will still continue on their way.
Since killing yourself was an unbalanced act you did as escapism, your self is still negatively bent, and this then cascades to your other parts. I hope it makes sense, it's late here.
