Battler acting as if he had been defeated was the most genius moment of the series. He got to see not only Beato's naked tiddies, but also took a peek under Bernkastel's skirt. By that time his hair was white and his youthful vigor had withered, but his love for Featherine cultivated upon decades of lust was still as strong as ever. He knew that she was the woman he'd want to spend the rest of his life with, so he made up some contrived bullshit about having a personality disorder to deceive Ange and keep her from going full deredere imouto.

Speedreading means reading without stopping to think for even a second between paragraphs, going from a line to the next without reflecting on what you are reading at all, mindlessly absorbing information without much thought. People that do this shit might be fine reading other stuff, but Ryuukishi's novels are often written in a way that most of the emotional impact of a line or the weight of a statement is implicit and you need to take it all in to fully experience the story.

People that speedread may think they aren't missing anything, since they are absorbing all the raw information, but they are rendering the countless parts where Ryuukishi intended to make you reflect on things useless and meaningless. He often writes in a way that induces you to think and interpret things your own way, consider the implications of a line, or imagine certain situations based on what the text is implying that might or might not be the truth.

Speedreaders miss out on half of the experience because they literally read like machines without an ounce of original thought or input. And I'm not talking about theories or mystery, I mean everything in the story. Lines that are supposed to imply certain things and give you an idea of what this character is like or what might have happened go completely over their heads and they get absolutely nothing out of them.

Look up Crazyfox1 or whatever the fuck his name was on Youtube. His old Higurashi and Umineko LPs from around 2010 are the perfect example of this. Not only is he constantly speedreading without thinking for even a second about the implications that Ryuukishi is trying to drive home in his writing, he's literally fucking skimming the text, talking over it and missing lines without realizing it.

I'm not sure what makes people do this, but it goes against the very purpose of literature. Mindlessly reading text without thinking at all and missing anything implicit no matter how obvious.

I am fairly certain Battler is Yasu. Not the real Battler of course, but the replacement Battler after he died shortly after Asumu's death. Yasu, losing their memory in their accident, was an easy target to imprint Battler's personality on. The entire rokenjima incident can be explained as Yasu's "duel" against Battler's persona which cumulates in Yasu lashing out and killing everyone. This is not only forshadowed early in episode 3 and 4, but also explains every single murder.

Some of my favorite works of writing have extremely flat characters, and if used to serve a purpose I think it's completely valid.
One of my favorite characters in literature is Tyrone Slothrop, and you definitely couldn't call him a 'round character'. He basically exists to act as a foil to everyone else.
I personally feel like Ryu uses his flat characters really effectively in a way, as a way to bounce off of the throughline or with the one or two characters with real development.
You can definitely argue that you don't find it effective at all, but you can't just equate flat characters to bad characters.

Speedreaders like the one I mentioned appear to be incapable of fully engaging with a story because they read like automatons and don't think at all while they do it. They empty their mind as they read and simply absorb information, without thinking to themselves about it or understanding anything implicit in the text that ANY normal reader would get.

For example, rememeber the scene where the old woman asks about Maria's age and Rosa flies into a rage. The line before that says "maybe there was no malice in the old woman's words, but Rosa found that remark extremely humiliating". 95% of readers would quickly understand what this is implying without being explicitly told. Rosa is ashamed because Maria doesn't act her age.

The speedreader I described above would simply read that scene with their mind empty and not think for even a second about what that line is implying or why Rosa is reacting that way. Not even guessing wrong, they would simply not think about it because they are already focused on speedreading the next line, giving themselves no room to breathe or think.

Someone like that will not enjoy ANY book as intended and will miss out on half of the experience, no matter which one it is or who the author is. All books say things implicitly most of the time, knowing that the reader will understand it. They write based on the assumption that the reader got the hint and obtained that implicit information. They might also make things vague so that the reader's mind wanders for a few seconds and makes guesses.

A speedreader reads books wrong and might as well be reading a Wikipedia summary. They just read and read and read without any breathing room, without giving themselves even a few SECONDS to digest any of it, as the author intended.

Why the fuck do you think I'm talking about Ryuukishi? This applies to any story in any genre.

For Higurashi: In Tsumihoroboshi when Keiichi comes back into the classroom, after having talked to the police, and it's revealed that Rena spread enough gasoline throughout the classroom to blow up the entire school with the slightest spark.
For Umineko: A three-way tie between a moment in Episode 2, Episode 6 and Episode 1. The first one being the scene when Battler surrenders to Beatrice, and, is dragged around in a collar naked before being eaten by goats since Beatrice quickly grows tired of him (not because of fetishistic reasons, I like how Beatrice is presented as a more satanic witch here, it's one of the few scenes where she truly comes across as evil imo). The second one is the "It's valid" scene. It seems that Battler is being pushed into a corner, but he manages a solution of the spot. I also like how it doesn't end here. The last one is when everyone in the study receives the phone call from the lounge, it was one of the few moments where I felt genuine fear at what was happening.
For Ciconia: The meat factory scene showed to us by Blueyao, it was one of the things that really stuck with me. I also liked many other scenes, but nothing else except the ending was as impactful.
For RGD (so far): Meijiu discussing the solution of the recent worker influx with Rose and Richard. I liked these sorts of things, especially because both have a point making it hard for you to side with either one (would probably side with Chinatown though). The action is kinda boring if you ask me, with only a few exceptions such as the 1v40.

I like Lynch stuff, and I think his stuff is basically the same sort of structure as a Ryukishi work. You figure out the rules of the gameboard and then you work with what it gives you afterwards, it's really fun if you like it in these VNs.

If you cannot immediately see it then that is evidence enough that you have not read Umineko; see Maria and Rosa's relation, George and Shannon's relation, Kanon and Jessica's relation, etc. They're all one note and your brain must be rotten to believe otherwise.
It is also humorous to see you posting a picture implying I am constantly changing my narrative when it is you Umineko trannies who keep trying to change the topic to other literary works.
