I made an RPG with RPG Maker 2000 before, did enough to make it playable for an hour or so, one town, overworld map, storyline stuff in that town, and a dungeon with a boss in the end.

I started a dating sim RPG once. It was fairly standard with meeting up with a mage girl and then have her disappear before you run into the next girl and then give you the option to look for the first girl or just move on with the new one.

It had a nice system of affection points to determine story progress.

I believe as far as I got it was starting cave with bats -> tower with books -> unexpected warp portal -> succubus town -> cemetery catacombs -> your own ship!

You can't get more original than that.

2003 had the most raw potential, but it required a fuckton of sprite work to get battles to look nice.

I used to spend a lot of time in the RPGM communities, but somehow I lost interest in using that shitty engine when I could just code it myself. Some things are really easy with it, but trying to do other things is like purposefully cutting off your legs, it only gets more difficult.

There are millions of websites with ready made graphics, hell, if you guys want to make a game just use REFMAP/FSM stuff, they all have battle character sets 2k3 style floating around too if you want that.

http://www.tekepon.net/fsm/

They're pretty overused though, if you dig around you can find plenty of cool shit Japanese people have drawn. Or just get some rips from a good looking game.

An RPG project from /jp/ would be pretty cool, but everyone here is lazy and it would probably not work out.

Well actually, I was thinking about this earlier, one of the RPGM communities used to do this thing called Alex's Game (or something like that) and everyone used to contribute one map made over the course of a week, then the one guy doing the project would compile them into one long adventure.

The maps couldn't use any database stuff, because it isn't saved in the map files, so people had to make custom battles or just puzzles or whatever. You could even just turn in a blank map, the whole idea was community involvement.

Something like that, with Touhou/other /jp/ themes could actually work quite well.

Its /jp/ related, Touhou isn't the only thing in it. Want to put in some Dawson, Japanese Bird, Type Moon, Peter Payne heads, etc. you can do that.

Main character will probably just be AVERAGE FACELESS VN PROTAGONIST.

A story that has been well thought out instead of "let's make a love game where all the characters are personified bugs." I'm not against anything being weird by any means, but the story should be the first idea, not a justification for having whatever crazy fetish.

XP does have a lot more pros than 2k3, I was just concerned it would be REALLY HUGE, I never checked the install size (I need to download it now, actually.) The scripting is negligible, only problem being if the game would use any scripts they'd have to be agreed on, because scripts don't get stored in the map files. You could throw in the script in the word document, but if it conflicts with another script it'd cause problems.

If that can put out a half-decent script, then yes. Most games have absolutely terrible stories. Even if it winds up being a flop, atleast someone will be bold enough to try actually writing something.

To whom it may concern:

I have heard from a very reliable source that one of the many interests of your website is RPG Maker, and for the Pax Tsukuru, making the first step into any community is important, particularly the Eastern Community.

The Pax Tsukuru is an organization, and sites whose owners believe in the eventual symbiosis between the various communities around the globe are it's "members". ("Affiliation" carries a connotation that some find unpleasant) We have a unique neutrality policy that allows this to work.

Too many game design communities out there are stagnant because they're too busy boasting about how their game engine is superior to their 'opponent'. They fail to realize that they should be grateful that games are being made at ALL. The ultra-independant game industry is falling around us, only most of us are too proud to see it!

Do you know what a Grammarian is? A grammarian is someone who jumps on people for misusing
a phrase or misspelling something. The worst of these people sometimes consider themselves
better people than everyone else because they know the language better. An "elitist superstructure" is merely a group of elitists who have some form of power and stick together and collectively believe themselves better than others.

So, basically the Pax Tsukuru is a message to the ultra-indie game design community telling them to get over themselves. There's too much in-fighting over idiotic and useless issues and we're dying as a community because of it! We know there are other game making engines out there and everyone should respect that rather than bitch about how those people should switch to their engine!

There's actually a legitimate RPG Maker called RPG Maker XP. I know it's far from "cream of the crop", but for people anywhere from 8 to 16 it's a good thing to play around with.

Sincerely,
Invisionary
