I'm trying to buy the fumo of my dreams on y!ja, wish me luck!

I'm thinking about maybe getting an embroidery machine. There's a lot to look at though and I also don't know how much I want to invest in it. I should probably try my hand at making fumos first without the face as a test run with my sewing machine, see how well I can do it and if I enjoy it before I throw a lot of money at it.
I wonder how profitable a machine would be, assuming I can make a good fumo and take commissions. Maybe I could do some other stuff on etsy too.

It can be done. You can take a 2hu fumo and mod it into another character, or start a new plushie from scratch in the fumo style. You can comission one from talented people, but it will cost you more than a regular fumo most likely.

I only see FEDEXIP and DHL on mine as well. Black Ship has those two as well as Seamail, so I'm just sending my stuff over my Black Ship mailbox (also to consolidate other packages). I wonder if they're having site issues or problems with carriers.
Also, going by those DHL and FEDEXIP shipping rates, I can only assume your package weighs a decent amount, and I don't think epacket allows anything over 2kg. A good embroidery machine is going to cost $400-1000 and you are going to need to learn to use it. It isn't as simple as find a design and press a button. You will need to learn which stabilizer, threads, needles, and machine settings to use depending on the fabric. You will also need to find a program to make your designs into embroider files. I use sewart64 it is good program and it costs like $50. Now it just so happens that I have a pretty good embroidery machine and I can do the faces. So if you want some faces I could make them for you... in return for a fumo. Yeah, pretty much. To DHL's credit, it was delivered today (Saturday), after being shipped on Tuesday. To their discredit, though, it arrived looking like pic related.
I suspect the obscene price for DHL is also related to Gift using way oversized boxes this time around. 8-10 would easily fit in the 40x32x25cm box they used for my four. DHL will almost certainly use cubic weight for Express International shipments, so despite the fact that DHL made my box smaller for me, I would have been charged for the full size - equivalent to an 8kg package (the connote says 1.1kg). To be fair to BiJ, the quotes I'm getting on the DHL website are ¥36k, so ¥16k is a relative bargain...

Sadly it seems like Japan Post has essentially stopped outgoing international deliveries due to COVID, which eliminates EMS and airmail options. This only leaves couriers like DHL or FedEx, who are charging extortion rates, or sea mail.

UK bros, what's the deal with VAT post-Brexit when using forwarders/proxies for stuff below £135?

HMRC will no longer tax upon arrival for that price bracket as VAT is meant to now be imposed at the point of sale. From a JP store's perspective (regardless of whether they are good citizens and would mark up for VAT if they see a UK shipping address) they're delivering to a JP address and so have no reason to charge VAT. The forwarder or proxy won't charge it as they're selling their services and not the goods themselves. Is this finally our time?
