W is probably my favorite album of all time and while im not particularly a fan of Portraits and his collaboration with Sori Sawada, they're still enjoyable to listen to. It's such a shame that we will lost him again after his disappearance years ago. I wish that he will keep the website and the online store up and running at the very least, even though it sounds impossible. I still have to buy all of his album before they're all gone forever.

I hadn't actually noticed his full announcement so to repent I translated it:

Some people might know about it, but these past years, I've disappeared from people's sight. During these 3 years, if I were to say, I was trying to throw my life away.

I really don't get the concept of "leaving vocaloid" as aproducer. At some point, even if after years, they will feel inspired or get an idea or feeling to use vocaloid again. It's always like this, just like fanartist occassionally feel like drawing old characters again. Why deny yourself of that and make the final decision to never use it again?

Sure they can always come back, but it's nice to be honest with your fans that you're about to fuck off for awhile instead of leaving for years with nothing but confusing silence.

While it was fun at the time, and there are good kagepro songs, it gave rise to so much OC stuff that I can't enjoy it anymore. Everyone and their dog was trying to make a cinematic universe with their music, and it didn't work.
Kemu is a good example. Life Reset Button was a good song, and it had Gumi's character. Then he tried to extend it and remove Gumi in a way that made no sense. Great music though

Being able to compose songs without a singer is a benefit of Vocaloid even if the song could be done otherwise. And even if the song can be easily sang by a human, having a vocaloid sing adds to the roleplaying factor, some songs would be kinda embarrassing or weird for a regular band to sing. It allows for a lot of experimentation.

That said, voice synth have a lot of flexibility and technical skill that goes beyond singing fast or parallel singing, they can follow extremely complex sheet music that you won't see many singers capable of performing so they'll usually simplify the performance, the fact that you can easily swap singers and tune them mean you can find the perfect voice for each song - and you can have duets and choirs easily, and many genres embrace the artificiality of the synth like electronic.
