All I know is that there is an upper cranial mass (which is like a curved dome or sphere thing) and a lower facial mass which is this triangle form thing. Then the rest is just making sure it's all in proportion (which sadly to me is just erasing over and over "until it looks sorta right").

Don't worry about developing style; it's something that comes naturally as you find what you enjoy. If you really want to find your own quickly, experiment in many different styles, paying attention to which aspects of them are fun to draw, which aren't, which look good, etc. Take the elements you like and combine them with others. I started making the transition pretty gradually. When I started practicing drawing nudes I drew the body to as realistic proportions as possible, but stylized the head animu style.

Eventually I made the full shift to just drawing realistically most of the time, but now when I want to draw animu, at least I'd like to say that my body proportions are somewhat grounded in reality. It really improves the quality too.
