Oh look, someone else played that game, I thought I'm the only one. It's nice to have a protagonist that isn't afraid to stab people when he's wronged.

I think some people confuse "hype" with "repeatedly posting they'd like to play the game". I've seen a lot post about how they'd want Shuffle translated so they could play it. I haven't seen a single person say they wanted it translated because they played it and it was awesome.

In the end it usually is more talk about the characters than the actual games. You don't really need much story to like a character's voice or art. Even umineko has more talk about beatrice and battler than about the actual plot.

MangaGamer seemed to have done well business-wise for Shuffle, but inb4 noone buys the sequel.

Generic cast. There's nothing really to talk about aside from "X is hot, i want to fuck her" or "Why doesnt X have a route? She's the best character" bullshit. You cant even discuss the character relationship because there's none of that aside from "I love Rin-kun".

In other words. Shuffle is shit. The anime is already better than the VN, and it's still considered shit except for the Yandere Kaede parts(which isnt in the game).

Love poems are often sweet and romantic without a lot of depth and I can gain pleasure from reading them. Shuffle! does not need to be psychological and deep to be sweet and romantic and therefore enjoyable.

But you don't even understand that because unless it's a 600,000 word story about the inner workings of the human psyche and man's inhumanity to man it can't possibly be good and nobody could ever derive pleasure from it.
