I've captured it one single time. Towards the end it forces you into that tiny space that is almost as small as your hitbox and that space moves at the same speed as you do unfocused. But boy is it hard to be there at exactly that time.

Curvy lasers are my undoing. I hated them in Darius, now they are haunting me in Touhou too.

Why is her first attack harder than most of her spellcards? Those unpredictable lasers are nearly impossible to dodge without memorizing their pattern.

I captured Byakuren's 3rd spellcard on my 3rd or so attempt, and I swear it seems like there's a trick like Utusho's 3rd. I nearly ignored the curvy lasers and just kept moving sideways to dodge the stars and it felt like the lasers were missing me on their own.

The stage 5 curvy lasers are fucking bullshit though. Even Nazrin's get me sometimes (I got past her fine the first time, then I let myself get eyefucked the next time and dodged right into the lasers).

If I can learn to handle Murasa though I should be able to bomb through Syou and reach Byakuren with plenty of lives... then the question is whether I lose all my lives on her last spellcard due to losing power and making it drag on even longer

Merlin's lasers (on Normal) are a joke by comparison, because it's a single pair that you can just macrododge, you don't need to sit in the middle of the lasers. Can't do that with Syou since the lasers are going in every direction.

Hourai Elixir was a bitch, but a final boss last card isn't really a fair comparison, and in any case, although Hourai Elixir was hard, it was fair, whereas the Spinny Green Lasers can just fuck you over if you move even slightly wrong by getting too close to the side of the screen.

I can do Murasa quite easily, but this is only for normal mode. I don't know how hard or even lunatic looks there.

Don't move all across the screen.
Make short focused movements through the bullets.
Pass a layer, move, pass a layer, move, pass the last layer.
Now you are free to move unfocused without any danger of even beeing close, at this point she's right behind you summoning new bullets but who cares you are far enough from those to continue to move gradually through the bullets.
As the spellcard progress this becomes harder as you have to react faster and faster but the point is that at that moment where this doesn't work anymore and you are about to run into a bullet the card is over and you capture it.
Did this 4 times now and never failed me.

Actually stage 5 was easy when I first got to it. I only lost a few lifes, and it was a relatively easy 1CC.
Then, when I tried stage 5 again next day in practice mode I LOL DIED with max lives.

This also happened to me with Subterranean Animism at the time. Except I didn't mange to 1CC all the way back then.

ok, fuck this game, I don't even want to try playing anymore. I reached Murasa with max lives; bombed like crazy and died twice, but was back at max lives by the time I reached Nazrin... managed to make it through the whole stage with no deaths and no bombs left. By the time I was done with Syou I had lost 3 lives (but had a fraction of an extend though).

Problem is, I was down to like 2 power from my deaths, and there's next to no power items or red UFOs during stage 6. So I couldn't kill worth shit and missed my one chance at a red UFO (and was thus unable to even complete that extend), and died during the pre-boss barrage. Made it through Byakuren's 3rd nonspell without dying, then died to her 3rd spellcard and 4th nonspell, bombed through the end of her 4th spellcard and captured her 5th.

So reaching the final spellcard with 2 extra lives and 3 power, I proceed to die 3 times; of course once I died the first time it was pretty much game over as it just keeps getting harder and I'm down to 1 power.

tl;dr, fuck this bullshit power loss on death, it's like a reverse rank system. Basically the whole rest of the game doesn't matter; no matter how many lives I start the final card with, if I can't capture it (or at least get near the very end without dying), I lose.

The annoying thing is that I can absolutely destroy her in practice mode, losing one or two lives in the whole level. Then when I decide, okay, enough practicing, let's 1CC this, I get absolutely raped for all my lives but two or three.
