As nice as Terraria with everyone sounds, I just can't do anything with a poor connection and the game's net code. It's really heartbreaking to be unable to always play with everyone like before. Especially on a day such as this.
I'm praying that everyone of you has a good time today. I will do my best to take it easy aswell and not be bitter about all the times I had to skip the server because of poor timing on my side never having known that it will turn out like this with the boards current poor condition and really large breaks between runs. If I knew I would never have let so many runs just pass and even endured being sleep deprived because you guys are just doing a really wonderful thing.

Don't ever feel bad for not being able to host the server every single time you wanted to; shit happens and when we do get to play it's always good comfy fun and that's the most important part. Saying that you'd endure being sleep deprived is definitely not easy, anon, but I'm sure we can all at least appreciate the sentiment. Have a good one yourself, anon.

I feel for you anon. Wish there was something more I could do but I really am entirely out of commission until I get those parts. I'll try to make it up for whenever I can get everything back in working order. It was going to be a surprise, but since I've been beleaguered by misfortune I'll tell you that I actually got pedestrians working, they function pretty much exactly like they do in single-player and you can even accrue wanted levels and other stuff I won't spoil. I was planning to set up pathing for the Gensokyo map before the server's toaster died. It also won't bomb performance. Was pretty excited to show it off, it's much better than the old system which was largely just a novelty to show off every now and then. Wish I had something visual to show for it, but...

Something to look forward to I hope. And if there's a silver lining to all this the server will be on brand new hardware! Should hopefully help things be a bit more stable. I apologize again for the trouble, when it comes to my luck "expect the best" is the equivalent of "It's about as likely as hell freezing over". I hope you can still have an enjoyable New Year despite everything dude.

Damn, that sounds really great! How did you even achieve getting NPCs that don't break server performance working?

Can't take the credit for this one actually. You may remember long ago I mentioned pedestrians would be a huge, time-consuming commitment? I actually happen to be acquaintances with another server owner who'd been working on this project as NPCs are the main "gimmick" of their server. This one resource has been in the works for some 7 odd months now. Originally it was going to be a public release but in their words they felt it wasn't appreciated enough, and knew some people would try crossing it off as their own.

The pedestrians are rendered by the client but still loosely synced by the server, so some will try to fight back or flee if you attack them, dodge out of the way when you drive near them with a car, and more. It allows for much denser ped populations than trying to handle it all on the server, too.

So aside from them, we're the only ones who have access to it and they've promised to throw over any updates they make to it as well. Quite fortunate. Really friendly guy. Even gave me the toolset they use for drawing pathing. Pays to have connections!

Oh now I'm more hyped for the return of the server, I never thought I'd see that resource available to us! The wait was worth it.
