I've always counted Reisen as one of the most likable characters in the whole series, even moreso after IotM&E showed (in an exaggerated fashion) how much her daily life sucks.

Without her, the Eientei household would collapse into internal bickering and strife. She's the knot that ties it all together - a pet to Kaguya, an apprentice to Eirin, a big sister/role model for Tewi and the only one with enough responsibility to get anything done. Yet she never gets thanks for that. Tewi fucks with her (not in the nice way) all the time, Eirin puts her in a coma if she makes the tiniest slip-up and Kaguya... she just lies around and expects to be served as a matter of course, the useless pampered cunt that she is. Reisen never gets the slightest bit of respect, not even after she somehow manages to defeat Yukari in SWR.

Despite this, she never leaves. Cause she knows she's the only thing keeping Eientei going.

So yeah, she puts a few people in the asylum and probably kills a bunch of others. That's her job. She's a soldier, a bodyguard. It's not like she goes out of her way to be cruel like Yuka. You could bring up her backstory too, that she's a wanted war criminal, but fuck it, that's in the past and right now she's probably the touhou I'd feel most comfortable around. Even Keine has her cranky, dangerous days, but not Reisen - she's always reasonable and reliable.

Come to think of it, that she does. So we do have an upper limit.

When she was on the moon, she was entrusted with coordinating logistics for a company-sized group of what could very well be called their own Shock Troopers, comparable to the Nazi Stormtroopers. That's 120 of the moon's famous fighting rabbits, the elites among them no less. Wrangling them would be a job and a half.

She has combat experience - enough to have gotten several raises in rank.
She has organized Eientei's rabbits into a meager Royal Guard for Kaguya - a daunting enough task.
She has served in the conflict between the Earth and the Moon, killed her share of enemy Earthmen, and assisted in the taking and holding of several occupied facilities.

I hardly think she could be called one-dimensional, but that's just me. I am not for or against either view.

You would think so.

People talk about the landing of the moon being a Hoax. Not only is it entirely factual, but only for something much, much larger.

You see, the US and the Soviet nationsstarted something up there. And it was up to the native Lunarians to finish it, before a total war between the worlds erupted.

The '60's saw the first real engagement of space-borne US troops and regimented Lunar Special Operations Command(or, LSOC)forces. A mere skirmish, they called it.

It was more like a beach-head invasion. D-Day in space, you could call it.

The Cronus Assault Carrier, known to civilians under the codename SATURN V Rocket, remains one of our most robust, solid troopships.

Whereas the Royal Lunar Navy has thousands of ships and an ungodly amount of Landing craft. Needless to say, if every single Destroyer, Battleship, and Dreadnought the Navy owned were to turn its weapons on the Earth, exactly zero humans would survive the orbital bombardment.

The Lunarians call their heavily armoured and armed battleships "Planet Crackers" for just this reason. Sustained bombardment by one Royal Lunar Navy battleship can crack the crust of a planet in mere hours.

And while the 'Saturn V' is many years old, the Royal Lunar Navy is constantly upgrading and improving their fleet. Old ships are broken up for scrap and fuel, new ships are hammered out at drive yards.

I needn't go into detail about the Dreadnoughts.

>how come they don't attack us

One, because that navy is fragmented. The Lunar Empire needs an Empress, and the one who must become the Empress is currently in a prison colony.(The official designation for Earth)

As such, the Royal Lunar Navy has become broken into bits, as the respective lords and ladies of the moon, Kaguya's would-be council, withdraw their ships. Each now spends more time arguing and making false alliances with each other, more than anything else. This means that the Navy cannot be massed for an all-out attack, if its owners cannot agree with each other.

They very nearly agreed to an alliance against the Earth, but for the best of us all, they did not.

Secondly, wasting the lives of civilians - even if they are filthy prisoners - is too much of a coarse action for the aristocratic, noble Lunar society. Earth would have to severely anger the Lunarians in order to call down their wrath.

>> No.3125090

>>3125041

Also, have you ever wondered why SETI doesn't find any extra-terrestrials?

That's all thanks to the impressive power of the Royal Lunar Navy. When they were united, no pirate vessels dared even skip close to the Sol system. The Lunarians are fierce combatants indeed.

So naturally, no one will interfere with us.

>> No.3125112

That faggot is playing pretend as usual, the real reason Lunarians never attack anyone is that they have pretty much no reason to (other than giving a "don't fuck with us" message. ) Lunarian territory is "pure" (hence why no one dies despite being human, entropy and decay is presumably negated within Lunarian borders) and they wouldn't gain much from conquering Earth because they cannot even expand their territory. If they wanted to do it, they'd take you know, the rest of the moon first.

Read Cage in Lunatic Runagate for the "ZUN canon" of it but then ZUN's works also claim fossils are fallen deities so don't expect anything to make sense.

And now, some old copypasta regarding a RLN ship.

Yagokoro-Class Support Battlecruiser

Heavily armored, heavily shielded, and ponderously sized, Yagokoro-class battlecruisers maintain the fleet in the line of battle, supplying power to other ships' defensive shields and repairing any damage suffered to their hull with its regenerative field. Their crews usually include up to fifty Lunarians, more than on most ships, and the arcane technology they carry usually requires the touch of a highly experienced scholar and magic user. The Lunarians are also expected to receive casualties from the surface, or from badly damaged vessels in the line, and tend to their wounds.
The importance of their crew means a crippling blow when one of these ships are lost.
Yagokoro-Class Battlecruisers are not well equipped for attack, and will suffer if thrust into an enemy fleet's range without support. With only four plasma cannons and six Flak turrets, it does as much damage as a ship four times smaller, but its support abilities are where it truly shines.

>> No.3125121

>>3125090

The Yagokoro-Class battlecruiser can emit a regenerative field that gradually repairs the hulls of damaged friendly vessels over time. This is an invaluable asset to ships under heavy fire, allowing them to stay in the line for a while longer. Yagokoro-class battlecruisers can also restore the shields of a downed enemy vessel, even if that particular vessel has been hit with a direct EMPC blast. This only works on one vessel at a time, so the Lunarians aboard must use strategy in deciding which ships need its power.

Within the four-layer reinforced hull, scholars and magicians from the Moon's capital city tend to the casualties of battle, ensure that the ship is in working order, and keep vigil over the fleet. The requirements for becoming part of a Yagokoro-class Battlecruiser's crew are incredibly high, and generally only the oldest, wisest, and most experienced of Lunarians are given the posts. These standards do not apply to the bunnygirls, as they are relegated to basic shipboard duties.

Yagokoro-Class Support Battlecruisers bear the name of one of the Moon Capital's founding members, and her legacy of Lunarian science and technology lives on in the ways they carry out their daily duties as a capital ship. Many critics consider them to be dated, aging vessels from a past era, but they are still used by the Royal Lunar Navyy and produced by shipyards here and there. Despite their age, they are always welcome additions to a line of a battle, and their presence brings a soothing effect to the fleet. Upon seeing the white hull, striped with blue and white along its side, a downed soldier can feel relieved, knowing that she will soon be healed by the Moon's most experienced, and given a snug, warm bed in the vast Infirmary.

The name is, as we all know, a reference to the god of mythos who swallowed his children and was later forced to vomit them out.

In the same frame of reference, the CAC is equipped to carry a small vessel similar to the Koschei, which it then expels into space. Refer to the Saturn INT-21, which carried the Skylab up into the air, it was what inspired the idea.

The Saturn that we are familiar with, the one that was publicized, is a test rocket and actually very wasteful since it only carries a landing module, plus an orbiter.

The CRONUS does away with both of these and simply carries up one big orbital station in similar vein to Skylab, but reinforced and plated with heat-resistant tiling so that it can land on the Lunar surface, then get back up just as easily.

While it cannot carry more than a squad and the pilots who fly it, there is room to carry equipment, or even very light armor, on the outrigging. This is crucial, because without proper Anti-Air defenses, all the Lunarians would need to do is call in some snubfighters from their carriers or battleships and have them strafe. Which would not be good for our soldiers.

I do wonder what the reasoning was for the creation of such a large Lunarian force. The Earth isn't much of a threat at all, and certainly wouldn't justify such a large expenditure. Jovians might be a plausible threat, but since they're essentially just large gas bags, they really don't have much interest in rocky worlds like the Moon. Extra-solar and trans-dimensional threats are extremely hard to quantify, and in all likelihood would be so powerful as to just roll right over the lunar armada. Even a fairly simple four dimensional approach would bypass a lot of the Lunarian's defenses, as when Yukari just just jumped her forces right to the Moon's surface, completely skipping the Lunarian space armada.

>Extra-solar and trans-dimensional threats are extremely hard to quantify, and in all likelihood would be so powerful as to just roll right over the lunar armada.

I wouldn't be so quick to say that, considering the might and power of the Royal Lunar Navy. Even a single task force, led by one battleship and a few support ships, would be deadly to any fleet of raiders or marauding pirates who had amassed their forces. And also, should the Moon be under significant thread, their Navy will reassemble themselves in full force to repel the threat.

I have mentioned before that the reason why SETI cannot find any extraterrestrial is due to the vigilance of the Royal Lunar Navy regarding our space. No one dares contact us unless they are exceptionally foolish.

>I do wonder what the reasoning was for the creation of such a large Lunarian force

A long time ago, the Lunarians made total war with their neighbors, wiped them out, and established a mighty empire over every arm of our galaxy. The years of decadence and splendor led to it crumbling from within, as so many other empires have done over the centuries. Eventually the other races rushed in to retake what was theirs.. In the end, Eirin assembled a fleet and escaped to the Sol system, and you know the rest of the story.

War and the business of it comes very easily to them. They are a proud, aristocratic, aggressive folk that make war upon themselves as easily as they do with their neighbors. Contempt and indifference to the Prison Colony(Earth)keeps them from conquering us. They believe we have poisoned our planet.

It would appear that the Lunarians are still in a state of decline. Such a badly fragmented state, combined with arrogance among the aristocracy, would effectively prevent any progress towards the reestablishment of a galactic nation. It may well be that the only reason that nobody's conquered the Lunarians yet is that they've still got a lot of ships from the old empire. "Improvements" on the newer ships may be largely superficial, or outright propaganda to make the populace believe that the military is growing stronger, not weaker. When the resources of the galaxy were at their command, much more could have been done that with the resources of a few meager planets. Simply maintaining the fleet with what's in Sol probably isn't possible, and the fact so many ships are still operational is more a testament to the original builders than to the scraps of the old empire that are left.

The SETI information blackout might be just as much to help control their own populace. Who wants to know that they could get obliterated at any time? Better to keep up the morale by pointing out how superior they are to the prison colony, and it actually lets us get away with a lot more since we're such a great distraction from all the real problems they've got. For all we know, the galaxy might be in the process of being conquered by another intergalactic power that's not so hung up on old prides and glories. It makes me wonder if the information block isn't two-way, so massive war fleets passing by won't notice that there's a juicy prize of old imperial technology hanging around. The Oort cloud might not be a fully natural occurrence, but a series of cloaking satellites placed to effectively hide the presence of planets. Who'd want to stop by a dinky mainline sequence star when they're a dime a dozen, especially when it appears to be uninhabitable?

That's like asking the United States why they don't pack their shit up and go to Africa. Or why Russia doesn't take Chernobyl back.

No one wants to set foot on a polluted planet meant for holding dangerous convicts. There's nothing to gain from Earth. There's nothing that would better the Moon's cause by going to Earth. It would be a gigantic waste of Lunar resources and funding, all for what? To prove their superiority over some undermen who haven't even achieved supra-light speed travel?

They bloodied the Earth's nose for a bit after the first invasion by the US, but that was more of a small feud between two countries and not an all out World War. The only thing that even caused the Lunarians to attack the Earthlings were the deaths of several bunnygirls. They could not stand by and do nothing about this.

>it may well be that the only reason that nobody's conquered the Lunarians yet is that they've still got a lot of ships from the old empire

If they did, the US would never have been able to even land on the Moon. The old Lunar Empire's dreadnoughts were a truly frightening prospect. They could send entire star systems into supernova simply by launching torps at its core.

By comparison, the modern Royal Lunar Navy can only crack a planet's crust.

The society on the moon is essentially made up of a bunch of refugees who fled their homes after their own empire turned on itself and began to rebuild a shadow of their former glory. ZUN goes into this in detail, so I won't bore you by retelling the story.

Also, the rest of the galaxy has more important things to worry about than an antiquarian little colony with delusions of grandeur. For a colony, the Lunarians are extremely powerful, and could very well move out of system if they so wished, but no one can figure out how to do this. Their governmental system is nothing without Kaguya, and without a solid infrastructure, the Lunar nobility fights amongst itself. So, nothing gets done.

If, hypothetically, Kaguya were crowned the Empress and work was begun on conquering the Galaxy again, then we might see the old glory.

>> No.3127263

Further, the Sol system's massive belt of asteroids provides more than enough resources for the Moon, to say nothing of the comets(dirty snowballs)and Solar energy that can be converted into power.
And the Lunarians are far beyond the stages of using crude solar panels to gather energy from the Sun.

They have enough of their own resources, and reuse their energy in far more efficient ways than we do. Old ships are broken up into scrap and used to build new ones. Water is taken from asteroids, as well as precious metals and crystals. Unfortunately, the bureaucratic mess on the Moon firmly prevents anyone from bringing up the idea of expansion, as it is impossible to get a full agreement on anything.

>> No.3127306

>>3127227
That does make sense, though it means the decline in technology and power is even further along that I thought. The only possibility I see as to why we're still around is that the old empire, at its height, was so powerful that it drove away every other possible threat. Unfortunately, while this safe "sphere" (actually a multidimensional region that encompassed the old empire and whatever buffer zones they deemed necessary) allows for a certain period to pass before significant threats reappear, it's still a race against time. Other empires surely exist among the local galaxy cluster, and who knows what dwells beyond the cleared extra-dimensional space. It's not a question of if such nations and horrors will come across us, but when. If the Lunarians aren't going to get their act together, then to use an allegory, someone else is going to have to step up to the plate before we lose the game.

But even terrible players can beat the game on easy. Hell, even I can do that. Not to mention the 'ending' dialogues to the extra stages is allowed to be posted, even though most players will never legitimately see that on their own.

You don't get (good) endings in most games on Easy mode, though.

You know, that would actually explain Reisen II.

>4chan never fails to amaze me first post is about reisen and last one is about soviets

It sort of comes naturally when a big part of the character's story involves the US waging war on the moon at the height of the cold war.

Aren't fans the only one who dislike Reisen II? I don't recall any animosity from her owners. It seemed more like they were naming her Reisen in honor of their former pet. Although I also haven't read that bit of SSiB in a long time.

ZUN does not want endings posted on sites like Futaba. He wants people to actually play the game and not skip to the reward (inb4 comments that endings are vapid and a shitty reward). The English community, most significantly the wiki, decided to abide by this as well even though ZUN likely wouldn't care. Plus I doubt Futaba really cares about posting endings; try posting a picture from the Japanese ending of one of the game with no comment and see how they react.

Also, one of the possible meanings of "Reisen" is "cold war".

They didn't look angry at her, but I do have to wonder why they would choose to bestow any kind of a special honor on a rabbit who seemed incapable of finding her ass with both hands and a star map.

In all fairness to her, a star map wouldn't help very much if she's looking for her ass.

Reisen has appeared in three games, several canon fanbooks and comics, and is the main star in one of the comics.

However, most of the above is just people making shit up. ;_;

Parts are true. Like how Reisen really regrets her past and is extra careful to not ruin her new life because of that.
