completed Genki 1 and 2, currently halfway through Tobira, looking for a good Japanese book to read

So I just finished the first semester of third year college Japanese. In third year Japanese, we use Tobira, and used Genki 1 and 2 for first and second years, respectively. So I'd say my level is between N3 and N4 but my only basis for that is the textbooks I've read, being halfway through Tobira. However, outside of class my input is mainly just watching Netflix in Japanese, not much reading and I definitely feel like my reading ability is not up to my listening.

I really want to get a good book in Japanese that I'm interested in and is just the right amount above my level in order to learn new kanji and vocab, reinforce grammar/vocab/kanji I've already learned, but not to the point where it takes 30 minutes a page lol

the biggest issue is the stories often drawn you in making you empathize with a characters struggles and feel the injustice strongly but then when the cucking is done (in some form which isnt necessarily romantic) the character just magically moves on after a cliche monologue written as obligatory venting which is of course woefully insufficient to get the viewer out of that mode, its just contrived unrealistic and abrupt leaving the viewer frustrated and disconnected still stuck with the feelings of injustice suddenly unable to empathize with the character as a human in any form

cant tell if thats how easily japanese people move on after all the raging and display of emotion earlier in the story, if its bad/lazy writing with the writer running out of steam at the end or if its just an active desire to torture the viewer
