Why do people stop listening to vocaloid for years at a time? I've had periods where I stopped being proactive about finding new music or keeping up with news but I never stopped listening since I found it.

From my experience teens generally tend to somewhat "move on" or "unconsciously reject" stuff they liked for a certain number of years once they start to explore their sexuality more, have experiences, drama and so on. It's not odd since music (or art generally speaking) permeates memories and feelings. You might not want to keep listening to VOCALOID if it keeps reminding you of your ex or friends you broke with for example.
Then later on in life once they "mature" they come back to it to glue back these parts they had let go of.

It's generally more the case for extroverted people, but this concerns everyone to an extent or another. I for example had let go of the entire otaku culture for a good 5 years or so at some point in my life, simply because everything about my life was different at that point. Right now I couldn't imagine doing so again considering a lot of what I do and identify with is rooted into it, but back then I was just some teen with a lot of loose roots.

Speed isn't the same as difficulty, depending on the map a fast paced song can be pretty easy when you know what to expect, because you can get into a good flow with the rhythm and if you hit when you hear the beat there's a good chance you'll be accurate. Slow songs can actually be more difficult since it's easy as fuck to get safes or misses if you aren't really focused. In general difficulty is more about the speed and complexity at which you're pressing the buttons than the tempo of the actual song.

I see this argument come up occasionally. Kind of on the fence about it.

The Japanese have so fervently sold the idea that things around them have some kind of divinity, that they've embedded it into their culture, assigning anthropomorphic elements to even the mundane.
They channel their creativity, emotions and meaning into them to produce something that is celebrated regardless of the work they put into them.

They say that these producers felt they didn't get recognition and stopped interacting with the Vocaloid fandom, yet they're objectively pretty well known compared to most. It just sounds absurd even if you do or don't buy into the idea of an instrument having become something more than that.

I'm pretty sure you've made posts with these ideas before, and I'm genuinely not sure why you think that's the case. It's certainly not true that any song gets attention just for being vocaloid. Maybe right after Miku got popular but even then not for long, there's way too many producers that hardly get views. Sure already established artists might get celebrated for just putting out the same thing over and over again, but that's not unique to vocaloid. The relationship between Miku and producers seems pretty mutually beneficial to me. If vocaloid wasn't producing genuinely good music pretty consistently, Miku would have been a brief trend or meme that died years ago. Music is what keeps Miku alive.

This seems like a pretty simplistic take. Those famous producers who are known for having left vocaloid launched successful careers thanks to their vocaloid work, and probably would never have gotten the chance to do so otherwise. Not every producer has the talent and appeal to make that shift, and except for the ones who have openly bitched about it, I wouldn't assume their reason for transitioning to a more "professional" music career and leaving vocaloid behind is just about "not getting the attention they wanted." Wanting to make music with your own face in front seems like a pretty legitimate desire, and making vocaloid long term isn't for everyone, but that doesn't mean everyone who stops or moves on was especially frustrated with vocaloid culture as a whole.

Honestly producers don't seem at all ignored by fans to me, comments on videos are usually praising the producer song they made, not "wow another song from the artist Hatsune Miku!" They certainly get much more recognition individually than the writers of songs for human pop stars. Almost no one knows or cares the names of those people, while pretty much anyone with more than a casual interest in vocaloid music with have producers they specifically follow and enjoy.

As an addition, for every artist who distanced themselves from vocaloid, there are plenty who have been around for years and show no signs of leaving. Even people who have left have come back around and produced for the community again, like wowaka, and he's not the only one. Giving back to the community when they don't need to anymore strikes me as lingering attachment and affection for the scene despite any past issues they might have had. I'm sure there are unique frustrations to being a vocaloid producer compared to other types of musicians, but ultimately Miku and other voice synths are instruments, even if they come with a face and culture attached, and vocaloid music is still just music.

In my opinion, I think Kikuo Miku 5 is the best album. It's the one that I listened the most, like, for hours. 6th Album is too lackluster to me compared to 5th solely because of the instrumentals and the rhythm. Yes, hello, planet is on the top since it's a brilliant climax to the story, if we disregard the lyrics it definitely not as good as a stand alone song as wanderlast (though wanderlast has almost as strong lyrics as well, which is what I think it's missing in 16 bit warz even though it's an absolutely essential part for the doomsday series narrative).

This kind of make me miss when making multi-song arcs was really popular in the Vocaloid scene (although there are a couple of producers that still do it like Hitoshizuku × Yama△ and Cosmo@BusouP)
