I adapted off the usual Himeuta comp. Suffice to say it's banking on big TB hits in opening airstrike, plus decent crit rate with TB stacks on some CVs; other consideration is keeping resistant DBs/TBs on smaller slots (although even then they have a chance to wipe). Nisshin has the recon for triggering contact given the lack of Saiun. Refresh to preserve ranks if you fail.
For LBAS, you're probably looking at 6x AD or 5x AD 1x AP, use the planners. Recon planes are pretty much mandatory to boost damage output and FP. Refresh to preserve ranks if you fail.
Note that this still doesn't guarantee jack shit, you're still hoping to get the sub comp (if no Ark/Yura) and hoping for them to trigger TCIs to clear meatshields ahead of escort engaging. Your CVs are probably going to get smashed during day shelling too, never mind slot wipes. Regardless of what happens it's probably still going to be a diceroll for your (surviving) escort ships to target the boss, and/or crit (that was a Fletcher double crit TCI). I'd wait and see what the next wave of FF contains, this was pure luck (was doing a dry run and hadn't fully sparkled, fucked up my night battle equips too).

Only in as far as you can say that for literally any BB gun. Dealing with them efficiently is another matter. The quad turrets were a disaster. Slow rate of fire and constantly broke due to design flaws.

Wrong. They had very good belt protection but that's where the good ends. Their belts didn't provide particularly good coverage, being fairly narrow and somewhat short. Aside from the belt the rest of their armour was nothing impressive. Deck, transverse bulkheads, and tertiary armour were all average or below for a modern BB. Conning tower armour was non-existent. Barbette and turret armour was fucking atrocious. A single clean hit from any BB calibre shell and they'd lose the gun.
