when i first got to /jp/, it was full of people who were 1. older than me 2. more knowledgeable than me 3. had a quasi-spiritual dedication to "otaku values" was full of wonder compared to "real values" 4. was full of a spirited and unique culture that was fun to navigate and discover. what a place to be alive.

i don't have any of that anymore though. on my side i got older jaded and more knowledgeable and on the other side /jp/ changed too.

You never understood Touhou and it's appeal to begin with. People are still interested in the series not because of sex appeal (the amount of non-H works vastly outnumber ero-doujins) but because of how ZUN managed to craft a universe both vague and detailed. Most characters don't have their intentions and backstories spelled out so fans each have their own specific interpretation of them. The world has rules and boundaries but there isn't much written works that specifically elaborate them. It's cool seeing each artist and circle's interpretation of the universe, and it's impossible for me to get bored of it with how many variations there can be of just one character.
