For the longest time I always wonder why I thought that Tsukihime Remake PV was so chilling. It didn't hit me until I played the mahoyo hollow moon translation that made me realized WHY it was such a good PV for just Tsukihime. There's a lot of existential stuff in Tsukihime, particularly in the Near Side routes. There's a bit where Arcueid interrogates Shiki about the meaning of life and meaningless daily interactions, and Shiki basically says something like "it's cool even if it doesn't matter, life doesn't need to have some sort of grand meaning". Shiki's opinion regarding this is supposed to carry extra weight, considering he almost died in that accident.

Just finished Akiha's route, and I do have some questions.
First off, Is Michael's explanation in Ciel's Sensei Lesson to why SHIKI is different in this route true?[ /spoiler]
Secondly Is Shiki actually alive? Akiha just felt that he's alive when she grabbed his knife, but it never confirmed been confirmed in this route whether he's alive or not.
And most importantly, What happened to Arcueid? The whole route felt pretty lame without her.

If you take the ending exclusively on its own, there's no real answer as to whether or not Shiki is dead. As you've noticed, it's left entirely in the air. I'm personally inclined to think that Akiha is just in denial.
Taken in a larger context, there's a direct sequel in Kagetsu Tohya where he's alive. Whether you want to think of that as reflecting back onto Tsukihime or as being specific to the continuation presented in A Story For The Evening is entirely your choice.

Arcueid was probably just still searching for Roa the entire time. IIRC, it normally takes her a while to find him, so SHIKI probably just happened to evade her long enough to die to Akiha instead. It doesn't really matter, I guess - she's not part of the Far Side story and would only be a distraction if she were there, so she isn't.

She is not. The Far Side stories are primarily inward-focused, about the Tohno family's history, true natures, and fucked up inter-relationships. Arcueid's sheer narrative weight and influence as a character plus big ol' vampire lore would just distract the themes and narrative.

One of the ways I always looked the two sides of the moon were that one had its foundations on universal lore, as it is mostly "Arcueid generated issues".
Both Arcueid and Ciel tell details of things that would be, as an example, linked to other franchises at some level.
While the far side is mostly in-family drama/tragedy and of a "tsukihime only thing".
Of course, there are concepts like related to both Tohno blood and the maids blood, but generally speaking the relationship between the protagonist and the females on the family is heavily, heavily developed.

I sometime even see the farside as the "routes where Tohno Shiki finally matures as the new Tohno patriarch".
