During some graduation in MM the group lost their Phil Hartman. They ceased to be one cohesive unit and began their spiral into an assortment of individuals who look like they'd rather have nothing to do with each other. Every emotion seems forced, every appearance seemed awkward. The Hello! Project also suffered when groups graduated (Tanpopo, Pucchi Moni, etc) and replaced with inferior counterparts largely centered around useless singers (Viyuden [Ishikawa], EcoMoni [Ishikawa + Michishige], Country Musume [FUCKING ISHIKAWA AGAIN]) and while some groups hit a chord (Berryz, C-ute, and I guess GAM?) for the large part the feeling of the Hello! Project as one large group began to fade. The Hello! Project began it's spiral into many different groups. No more Summer Shuffle Groups.. not even a "Hello!' to the one-shot Hello! Project All-Stars.

These two situations occuring at roughly the same time began splintering the cohesiveness of the Hello! Project as a whole. An Idol group is only as good as it's weakest link.. and when every link seems to be problematic.. the Hello! Project was getting into deep water.

I really feel that H!P is a victim of mismanagement. From the way graduations and the way promotion has been handled I would guess that UFA can't be bothered to put any real effort into the H!P brand. Tsunku (as DS pointed out) is just the primary artist and audition director. Akimoto is the whole damn show. And now that Tsunku has his own brand where he's the head his efforts have been split between the two. I have heard some pretty damn solid stuff out of TNX so Tsunku still has 'it' but H!P and UFA aren't getting as much of 'it'.

I feel the MM brand has really weakened over the last two years. All the interesting members left and the craptastic half of 5th and all of the shitty 6th generation run the show. Koharu is more interesting than 4 out of the 5 girls with seniority. Takahashi a horrible leader, she has no personality or spine. As sales drop off nothing is done. They add a girl that can be summed up as part of the problem (no real personality) and two chinese girls that can outshine the entire lot but have some pretty serious language barriers.

>because they knew it was turning to shit.

Mari quit, secret boyfriend.
Maki left, acting out, family issues, rumors, image issues.

thanks fellow old momu fan. Dont worry, these guys will know our pain when Sayu, and Gaki graduate. They really will be left out int he cold. They better enjoy their short term success while they can, because they will most likely drop out of sigh in the next few years, get married and gets knocked up.

then, 3 years from now, it will be Asia Musume, and there will be no Japanese members in it at all. They will post on about how Morning Musume was better with Japanese members, and non Japanese members is just not the same, and the Chinese fans will ban them out right for "trolling".

YOU WILL KNOW OUR PAIN!. you just wait!

I'm not paranoid at all, spotting some of you is so easy because you "CLEARLY" have to demonstrate how you're above the current structure of our threads.
But the truth is not too much has changed here on /jp/ in terms of Musume thread structure, don't believe me, look at the archives. Obviously the days of the 6 wotas are over and I liked to see some of them return but they've moved on or made changes as I've previously stated.

I very much enjoyed H!M, even the 2007 episodes despite the suckiness, but HM@ was just terrible. With the weekly show butchered and no specials like the Mechaikes coming out the entertainment factor just died off and these days I hardly care what they do. I still love my favourite girls as much as ever but when they're not given the chance to shine all I can do is watch in despair as they go about their weekly routine of boring. No wait, not even that anymore.

It's painfully obvious the girls don't enjoy their job nearly as much as they did two years back. AKB members generally do seem to have fun rather than just fake it for the cameras. Though I've seen exceptions there too.

Personally I'm glad that I haven't had this type of experience first hand but experienced through these threads over and over, I never really understand this approach, it only diminises the old generation with this sort of postering, a good fan would remind and demonstrate their foundation, a real senpai.

I am a 1998-2004 Morning Musume fan. I know your feeling, but mine has a bit of despair. Not because i had to watch slowly as every member I loved graduated, and then fell out of sight and mind. I despair because I thought long ago Morning Musume would disband, at the very least while it was still slightly popular and its image was not yet tainted by wota fanboys. Now it seems that Morning Musume and Hello Project in general will die a miserable and slow fade out of existence.

When you look at H!P sales its always the graduations concerts which sold the most. You would almost think they were graduating girls just to make a quick buck without caring about what would happen once all the girls that made the group are gone. Very few girls got what it takes to become the next best idol and they were foolish to think they could replace everyone's favorite girls with whoever signed up for audition. Or they just didn't care.

I think one of the reasons AKB does have it, although I'm sure there's an enemy here or there, is because they are constantly performing with each other either on-stage or on video. They have a sense of rapport with each other the way a classroom of kids would with each other. Most of them came in at the same time as each other, and although there's been members cycled in and out... they don't bring with them baggage or an air of superiority.

The stuffiness one could get from beating 5000 other girls to become the newest members. The snobbishness one could bring to the group if.. oh let's say.. you were called a Miracle Girl or something -cough Koharu cough- or hell.. even the awkward silences you would bring to the group if you didn't even speak the same language.

This is a good point to make, I think Tsunku has in fact been rather pioneer with his recent decisions but why not challenge the international challenge?
>You would almost think they were graduating girls just to make a quick buck without caring about what would happen once all the girls that made the group are gone.
You are oversimplifying way too much, do you really think that they didn't understand what graduating Abe would do, or Yossie. The point is, you can't stand still in time, there are younger generations that have been working for years for the spotlight.

As mentioned, this is a great idea, long overdue.

Then again, the songs were chosen well in advance, the footage shot beforehand, and the entire project simply launched to boost interest in specific artists - while most of the kids were on vacation and able to spend extra time behind their computers. In short - a promo device, unlikely to overshadow official product.

I and other fans could no doubt produce superior PVs than the ones we've seen. Unfortunately, it's their job to do it, since they're getting paid for the effort, not us.

I honestly think that UFA didn't really know what they were getting into when they signed on to this, since the H&A thing was much smaller and done almost completely under the guise of them as the fashion mascots and fans at Sakuracon actually seemed to respect the no photography rule. I'm glad that it went off without a hitch and the girls had so much fun, but it does like many of my friends here give me a feeling that UFA doesn't respect the members of its fanclubs all that much.

Anyways, that's just my take on things. I didn't mean it to sound anything like a rant, but I think that maybe it is hard to understand when wota are always presented this crazy bunch of guys, when in reality most are normal business men (and women, there are a lot of fangirls lately) who have just found one outlet to spend all their hardearned cash on. And UFA knows this, hence the average purchase at a concert coming to around $300 even for the only moderately obsessed fan.

Koharu is the best leader.

I'm not complaining, I couldn't have asked for more (outside of the girls performing their album tracks 8o.gif ) I'm just presenting the reality of the situation.

That reality is ...those wota can go suck a big fattie. If anything, it's the fault of the wota who originally caused the companies to be so concerned about fan interaction. This was their first time in L.A. They had less strict rules before they were huge in Japan, right? So it isn't very different, they are obviously more likely to give special incentives to their new audience. Especially since UFA didn't even know just how much people would actually care. It certainly isn't our fault that UFA abuses their power and have so much control over getting every penny out of Japanese fans. They gained that power because the fans were willing to go along with whatever they say, no matter what cost.

With the tracklist announcement out and ridiculous things like "Zoku Viyuuden", I really think this is just a one time thing for the fans, thus making that "very little chance" into "we're not actually trying to make sales, silly gooses!" Ah well.

I listened to most of the original songs and most of them do nothing for me, so I'm not sure how excited I am for the overall release. I'm doing cartwheels and backflips and spinning jumps over the Linlin solo, though!

speaking of Kei, there are very few girls in the current lineup that sound good live, and every single one of them is inconsistant. JunJun definately sounds strained and weak there, but she sounds fine in all of the performances I've seen of Ame no Furanai Hoshi. I don't think she is as consistantly off key, grating, and nasal as Koharu and Sayumi - members who they can barely clean up for the CD release. I'm not as concerned about live vocals as much as some other fans though, since I only watch live performances that seem like they might be interesting right when the DVD comes out, and then never watch them again.

It's LinLin. It's kind of sad that the original Biyuuden dissolved for no real reason (other than sales, I suppose, but that hasn't stopped other H!P acts) and no clear future for its members and now they're slapping the name on some random other girls while the original members are basically hanging out doing nothing (musically).

I like these! Viyuden also makes sense because Sayumi has made moves to be seen as more adult lately. I'm not super big on Junjun but I'm already loving (if somewhat uncomfortable considering Risako is still, what, 15?) a sexy group with those three. I still don't like Mano Erina in Pucchimoni but whatever. She should be switched with Kamei in Tanpopo.

Reina and Takahashi are the two leads of the group so it makes sense to keep them out of mini-groups. Maybe we'll get a solo from them?

But, uh, where's Yurina? (Kumai? I just seriously blanked out at the screen trying to remember which name people usually call her by) or Chinami? OR MAIMI? Am I missing something? Were those three put in something that I didn't hear about?

The sheer fact that Erika and Maasa were put in a group, and not three girls who are probably (DEFINITELY in Maimi's case) more popular makes me more than a bit suspicious of the list, unless the Tsunkmaster's got something ELSE up his sleeve.

Autopilot or just plain being ignored, Utaban had a way of typecasting musume members as characters that probably are unlike them in reality, but that is television. Utaban was also partially responsible for making the wota love for young idols more acceptable thanks to Taka.
>I like the tradition of knowing the old songs.
I like those as well but honestly I find them to be rather outdated with todays pop scene, so I really like the new sound because for me it sounds fresh.

Its sad but probably is true, Japan is just too unwilling to except them with open arms. Its a shame because they really are interesting and lin can actually sing real well.

>they wouldn't start the conversation but you could get them talking
The same could be said about the current lineup, like that one Music Fighter episode, just a little prodding and you had great television.
But you still have a point with 5th and 6th generation additions being so timid and quiet.
I think at some point the girls being selected into Musume found it to be like a dream and were completely overwhelmed by the history and responsibility of working with the big girls. Yuko certainly kept things fiesty and Johnson was a fucking headcase starved for attention. The groups large size allowed members to be swallowed up and continue to be under-developed. Whether this was a natural occurance or deliberate it would have its obvious downsides.
Certain personalities like Rika's, Mari's, and Abe's just towered over the younger members and fans were spoiled in a way.

I'm not trying to make excuses as some of our current lineup found ways to be funny through those times, like Eri and Gaki-san. Eri worked out especially good because as she says she is best when she is backed against the wall, and that is probably the precise type of environment it was for them. Reina was always the lone wolf so she preferred to stay out of the main spotlight.

Ai was always way too self conscious, she was angry that she couldn't be a big talker like Rika or the other members so she became withdrawn. Most of her Hello Morning characters generally weren't that great. But she excused because she is such a good singer.

I think the prolonged Yossie and Miki phased may have really done a number on the current lineup. Although Koharu shot through that period as was able to start her brief successful solo career but she seems stuck in between stages now.
But I think at least some of us can agree that Shige's personality is playing out rather well across the different appearances of late.

Perhaps, but I don't really feel that any of the current girls have what it takes to be front and center, and it only would've been exposed earlier if Yossie and Miki had left before they did. But as you mentioned, Koha and Sayu manged to adapt very quickly in comparison to say, Ai or Gaki, who haven't grown all that much over the years. It's just too bad Sayu and Koha are severely hampered in other (unfixable) areas.

And I was thinking, come audition time (because I know he won't do the right thing and retire the name) Tsunku seriously needs to rethink his selection process, maybe have them run some skits or something in addition to singing, just to make sure he's not gonna get a dud like Aika, again.

Meh...I don't expect any graduations to occur until Morning Musume gets a new member/members. They really can't afford to lose Ai or Risa right now. They'll need to bring in a Maki-esque girl (not a fake "miracle girl" like Koharu) before that happens.

Yea, Tsunku would need to pull out the fireworks if there were a double graduation, unfortunately I have a feeling anything dramatic may involve a folding of the kids groups and integrating some of them into my Musume. (just a theory)
>just to make sure he's not gonna get a dud like Aika, again
Aika's not a dud, she just got drowned out by Koharu and the Pandas, I think her real strengths are soon to be demonstrated.
>And anything less than love for Maki is hate in my book
There are plenty of fans who draw the line between Ayaya, Abe, and Maki. But I'm only pointing out that I disliked her old personality. Nowadays she seems much more relaxed, an un-natural drug induced relaxed but more easy going.
>Here we are in July 2009 and nothing has happened. I think it'll stay that way for at least another year.
If he doesn't do this the right way it very well could spell the end of Musume. Unless Tsunku continues to wish to run the band on a shoe string than the usual long term outlook for his selection will have to be adjusted to short term vision.

I was wondering that perhaps that was a mm-bbs raid.

Eh, it's nothing. I'm gonna go have a smoke just to show my lung who's the boss around here.
I was there for the beginning, reason why I missed most of it is time zones, plain and simple.
It's what? 21:44 4chan clock time? It's almost morning over here. It's pretty bad but what are ya gonna do? It's still fun waking up and F5ing the thread to see that dudes have been up all night posting though.

Well it's now out there on the hello online tracker.

High-King's song is uninteresting and kind of a letdown after their above-average single. There's no reason to not just listen to the original "Diamonds".

I love what was done with the voices in the C-ute/Mano song. Maybe all this time I have not really been in love with Mano herself, I've clearly just been in love with KAN (seriously, how can you not love his face in the video?)

In Pucchi V's song, I don't really know which of the two voices is really annoying to me since I really don't know my C-ute girls (and don't suggest it's Erina's!). I never really cared for Kome Kome Club, so I guess I'd rather listen to this one, but that's no endorsement.

Ai and Reina's solos are strong covers that I think were well chosen for the two girls, but by the time the ZYX-a song starts, I'm totally sick of ballads. Thank god, Zoku Biyuuden's ONLY YOU comes in to save the day with the rock. Linlin's song is another well-chosen solo for the singer. I think I may even like it more than the original, but I'm not really nostalgically familiar with it at all as I am with some other songs. Kanpaku Sengen: well, um, I guess I like it. There's a cute naivete to it. But I confess, I had to listen a second time to come to that inconclusive conclusion.

I agree. I have some mixed feelings about this release:

1. Diamond - The vocals are good, even from Saki and Maimi, neither of whom I care for usually. However, the song is mediocre and just doesn't fit their image. After the outstanding C/C and Kioku no Meiro, I was hoping for more of a mature sound, maybe with some sort of R&B or rap flair to it. This song is cute, but it totally sounds like it should be the B-side to Sakura Chirari or something. Not really what I was thinking would come from this group. Pass.

2. Ai no Katsu - The combo of C-ute and Mano wasn't a pairing I expected to like, but the song is actually pretty good. I like a lot of the group vocal songs from H!P, like All for One & One for All, Dekkai uchuu ni Ai ga Aru, etc, and this one fits that bill. Some weak vocal points in the solo lines (very strained), but somehow I still really like the song. It's catchy and overall has a nice sound to it.

3. YES-YES-YES - Although I am one of the people very disappointed with Aa! not having Reina in it, this turned out nice. I love the vocals, and the song is mature without being too boring. Not as catchy as C-ute & Mano's number, but it's still decent.

4. Tentouchuu no Samba - This is the PERFECT song for new Mini Moni. I love it. Yes, I absolutely love it. I know I said I didn't think I would like new Mini Moni because I don't like Linlin's voice despite it being on key, but actually, I don't mind her in this. And it has KANON. Holy crap does she sound like Aibon, just brings the Mini Moni feel to the new line up. Um, this might be my favorite on the album, actually.... ._.

5. Kimi ga iru dake de - I don't know why this is Petit Moni V, since it doesn't have their sound, their style, nothing about this screams Petit Moni. Some of these, especially this one, feel like Tsunku just used the group name for the sake of using it. Overall, it's not horrible, but not something I'll be putting on my playlist.

6. Heya to Y Shirts to Watashi - I feel like Reina's solo time is always cursed, she has one of my favorite voices in H!P, but every time she gets something of her own to sing, it bores me! On Best Shot we had Memory Seishun no Hikari (bleeeehhhh), then on the Fuyu Fuyu mini album she had Kirakira fuyu no Shiny G, which I wanted to like because of the vocals, but the song was just not catchy to me. Then we get this one, which is kinda pretty, but ultimately bores me to tears despite Reina being the singer. Nooooooooooo.....

7. Mamotte Agetai - I love the combo of Risa and Eri, their voices are so different from each other, but they blend beautifully in this song. Eri's "mamotte agetai... ooooh" is probably the nicest I've heard her voice sound! Gorgeous. But on the whole, I'm not too big on the song - I just wish it were more catchy and upbeat of a tune. I guess I just feel most of the songs on this album are mediocre, they sound nice and all, but don't stick with me and aren't something that, if it came up on a playlist, that I would actually leave on and listen to. I'd just hit next and rock out to Nanchatte Ren'ai.

8. Akizakura (or is it Cosmos?) - Wow, Takahashi sounds so beautiful in her deeper register, we don't get to hear her this deep in most Momusu stuff. It's a beautiful display of her voice. The song is one of the prettier ones on the album, but ultimately a ballad needs to be something really special to stay with me. Because of the refrain, this song doesn't quite make it for me, at least not yet. Maybe a few more listens will make it grow on me - I do love the deep verses quite a bit.

9. Mirai Yosouzi II - Suffering from the same thing as the Petit Moni song - this is Zyx? The song's vocals are all in unison, which I liked the feel of in Ai no Katsu, but this one is not interesting in the least. One of my least favorites. I'm getting sleepy just thinking about it.

From what I've heard which is really limited, the Tanpopo & Reina's solo song I've liked it. You're in depth reviews makes me atleast want to give the whole thing a spin.

Also
I'll just blast through this, there is no way I'll cry.

I found the album pretty unmemorable and mediocre. It suffers from some bad songs choices for the particular members that were in the groups, and too many of the tracks were completely forgettable. There were a few standouts, like Only You, Tentouchuu no Samba, and Ai no Katsu, but I was hoping for better. I think they chose too many ballads, and did not change up the arrangements of the songs enough to try to emulate the original groups these were supposed to be sequels of. I will put a few of these on my playlist, and the rest... I will probably forget what they even sounded like by next week.

I like this album so much more than COVER YU that it's not even funny.

In general, I don't think there was much intention to make the songs sound like a specific sub unit, they just wanted to make the girls sound decent, if it happened, then probably by chance, except Mini Moni.

The intro of DIAMONDS sounds like something out of NiGHTS into Dreams. lol.png Also, it's more or less the style of Pucchi Moni's album track Makenai Maketakunai (Only with Nao Tanaka's signature R&B sound, without being too HARD) I really like this one, but when I listen to it, I don't really notice anyone specific in it. That's not really a bad thing, but it's strange to have the thought "Oh yeah, I'm listening to the HIGH KING girls"

Unison for Mirai Yosouzu II was a good call. I'd rather have a consistent sound than random girls butchering something so great. We can hear real ZYX when they get new songs. Oh, I wonder if they will do a new version of each group's debut single as a c/w of these new releases.
