I think it's alright, the problem is that it seems like they only started making the choreography interesting in the second/third dlc. Some songs like Senbonzakura seem like Miku isn't even singing it most of the time.

I could really use some help finding a specific song.
Long story short, really in a bad place right now, and not being able to find this song really is the cherry on the shit cake, or whatever you say. Anyway, not looking for pity, just hoping someone could help me find said song.

Hard to say the exact time, as it's been well over a few years by now. either 6 or 7 minimum. Hard to give any more description than that, given how the most notable thing about the song is its rhythm. To describe it to the best of my ability, it starts out with nice, calm singing, along with some soft piano, before the singing stops and the piano continues for a while. Sorry for an incredibly shitty description, but it's sadly the best I can give. Piano being by far the most prominent instrument in the song, along with some strong instrument. Like a violin.

They are definitely still working on a day one patch and can't provide definitive samples until it's forcefully over. They (like most developer teams) certainly downplayed how long it would take to catch-up to software already on the market for many years (which includes the engine, voicebanks and user interface). All while covid and giving technical support to project sekai (which also forced them to develop every voicebank for every vocal character in parallel).

I still think NT will eventually catch-up to vocaloid, cevio and synthv since they are really committed to it, but it will take some time after the initial release.

I like it this way. I get to feel superior to those that only listen to the new popular songs or to the rankings, but don't get to hear the under 500 view songs that are just as good or even better in some cases. The things you listed are pretty popular, so the pattern you noticed is based on these popular things... If we unzoom further and look at other "mediums/styles", like mainstream music, or electronic music, or metal music, whatever, you'll always notice the same distinct patterns at the top of each of these pyramids as well.

So if you think about it for a bit, you realize what you're talking about isn't about Vocaloid as a "genre" (or whatever you want to call it), it's about the people.
Because let me tell you there are hundreds and hundreds of producers out there you've never heard of and they absolutely don't fit into whatever "pattern" you think you got your finger on.

For the sake of discussion can we talk about voice banks? Currently we have so many things out whether it be CeVio (I forgot this was a thing), Synth V, Voiceroid, Vocaloid, Utau, etc I'm probably missing something. Anyway overall how do you all feel about VBs? Especially Vocaloid's who have gotten many over the years like Miku and Gumi, do they hold up to today's standard are they worth the price in your opinion to have them?

I hear a lot of mixed things in particular about Miku how her Append (Act 2 Kagamines sound way better than their V3 -does this count for their Append as well-?) is way better than her V3 and then her V4 is better than them all which a combination of them. I personally haven't listened to a Vocaloid song in some years that wasn't on apart of PD (I did listen to some recent MM songs though) Luka and Kaito don't sound really great, I should listen to more Gakupo songs and I haven't really listened to Lily either.

Would anyone mind posting examples where they think that which would be the worst song and the best song for their favorite Vocaloid, especially if said loid has had more than 1 voice bank to compare how it sounded then and now. There are so many Vocaloids out there and I'm trying to slowly listen to most which I might start with some Wholoids I used to listen to like Piko, Clara, some english ones like Avanna, Chika etc.

For the most part it sucks seeing so many Vocaloids come out some which may have a lot of potential but then they're dropped because no support because they didn't meet a quota or weren't Miku/Gumi popular. There's a couple canceled Vocaloids whom I forgot about as well as a French Vocaloid who was supposed to come out but it seems she never did. I think V3 was when I stopped actively listening to Vocaloids and some that came out where pretty good and others were just horrible. I just remembered about Anon and Kanon the other day so I'm going to be searching on some of their songs.

If you are, i might be able to give you some advice but I honestly haven't really used vocaloid or any vocal synthesizer for that matter.

Personally, i see them as an alternative identity rather than idols. It's like an identity that you can make and design yourself, then put on display with your music. That way, you can find yourself motivated to be more like the identity that you've personally created.
As for voice bank quality, I understand that there's been a lot of insecurities regarding that issue. I get that the quality of the synthesized voices for most voice banks aren't perfect, but they weren't made with the intention to being perfect to begin with. Interestingly enough, most companies have been making efforts to making realistic sounding voices like SynthV's Eleanor Forte while others are pulling back to stick to their roots i.e. Miku NT and Kafu. At this point, there will be this sort of split in terms of quality which will determine the kind of people who will enjoy the voice banks. The matter of fact is whether or not if people can actually tolerate listening to a rather synthetic voice and if there's a necessity for using a voice bank is what determines the value of a synthesized voice. I personally don't mind synthesized voices whether if it's much more synthetic or realistic, but I'm starting to lean towards appreciating realistic sounding vocals.
But as it stands, most vocaloid fans are motivated to only hearing a voice bank sing on the premises that the singers are portrayed as cute idols. The voice bank can be rather rough around the edges, but it's the grand design of the whole idol culture that most fans only care to look for. For example, a song featuring Miku V4X English singing about being an idol doing idol things just happens to be much more tolerable than a song featuring a voice bank that's not presented as an idol yet the song altogether can be much more well made in every aspect imaginable. That said, I believe that the vocaloid culture is trapped to being associated with the idol culture and there's this insecurity of stepping outside of that boundary of portraying voice banks as idols. I would like to figure out if there's a way to have vocaloid become much more than just idol culture pandering to expand on it's potential.

I don't get the constant hunger for more voicebanks. Miku V2 sounds just as good now as she did in 2008. (Was Miku V2 perfect? No, not by a long shot, but she worked for many great songs.) Why do you need Miku V10 when the existing versions are fine?
Yes, a lot of old voicebanks hold up. Worth the price? Depends on who you are and what you're paying.

Why do I need new Vocaloids when Miku sounds good anyway? Many Vocaloids attempt to be all-around jpop vocalists, but end up doing it worse than existing voices. IMO Anon and Kanon fall in this category. They're bland, flat, boring.
IMO new Vocaloids are justified when they do a certain style of music better than old voices. GUMI does acoustic-style rock better than Miku does (think MikitoP). Nyannyanya's Samsara'n Night would sound worse with Miku. GUMI has a place.
New Vocaloids can be good, but many don't have a niche, so they're pointless. Anon and Kanon are unpopular for a reason. Even Iroha, a high-quality voicebank, is eclipsed by preexisting banks (Flower, GUMI) because they're satisfactory deep-ish female voices.

I agree that starting with Utau is a good idea. It's kind of a bitch to get working, but it's a good primer to tuning. The pitch bending GUI is better than Vocaloid. It'll get you used to the ideas before you shell out cash.
I do not recommend making your own Utau out of the gate. It's an entirely different skill set. Very technical and specialized. None of it would transfer to Vocaloid.

Quality updates are nice but I dislike how newer voicebanks never have completely the same sound as the old ones. You can't up Miku's quality without making her sound different in the process. It's a real tragedy. We'll see how NT fares in that department.

I dislike how dismissive people are over the Kagamine's V2, both acts. I can't choose whether I prefer Rin's act 1 or 2 but they're quite different. They're low quality banks, but that doesn't mean the actual voices themselves are bad. When it comes to the voice itself they're definitely my favourites, they actually sound loli and shota-like. I fear newer fans don't even know what default Rin and Len sound like, which gives them completely different images of the characters. I hope NT will be versatile enough to get some of that old sound back instead of just being another Append update like V4x.

They were too optimistic with Miku NT schedule and every news or teasers were followed by an apology due to delays.
