2963003 No.2963003 [Reply] [Original]

Higurashi is an intricate murder mystery spanning multiple continuities that is, in the final estimation, the result of a competition between trans-dimensional witches.

Umineko is an intricate murder mystery spanning multiple continuities that is, in the final estimation, just lolis playing an MMO in the far future, a la Star Ocean.

>> No.2963014

Fuck Star Ocean 3. Worst plot-twist ever.

>> No.2963030

>Higurashi is some ridiculous bullshit trying to be deep but it has cool gore

Star Ocean 2 is the best of all.

This. I think I actually see more Umineko threads than Touhou threads now.

Which is sad considering how overrated Umineko is.

R.I.P. Maria Anon. Actually not really, I still sense his aura on /jp/.

This is even more apparent on the Newfriend Weekends.

I don't recall Higurashi ever trying to be deep. But yes, there are too many Umineko threads on /jp/, and it will only get worse in the future with the anime and Ep. 5.

You don't have to hate Umineko to think that there are too many threads about it on /jp/. I actually like it a lot, but unfortunately the fanbase is terrible.

There are many things you can discuss on /jp/ without too much idiocy. Touhou, Type Moon, and now Umineko are the exceptions.

Have you seen any of the serious discussion threads? When Ep4 was fully translated I must have read 8-10 100+ reply threads over a week or so that were almost nothing but intelligent discussion, and even with very little of people taking themselves too seriously and getting mad at each other. To me it seems that /jp/ Umineko discussion threads are about as good as this part of the internet gets.

Higurashi is too complex for you.

I have. I don't see what's so great about people circlejerking over their theories. It's pretty much the same thing as Type Moon powerlevel discussions.

Most of these posts are probably people like ZUN, who dislike things just to be contrary or it's popular.

This pretty much.

>>2963541

Once again, I do like popular things. Sengoku Rance and Kira Kira immediately come to mind. So I'm not really sure where you're getting this from. And I am looking forward to the future threads about Kazoku Keikaku (another extremely popular game) when the rest of /jp/ finally plays it.

>> No.2963567

>>2963539

.. It is? But it's people actually figuring shit out, not bullshit semantics about how powerful something is. It's actual solutions to things.

You must not like Umineko, then. Which would make finding the threads being everywhere annoying pretty reasonable.

>> No.2963610

>>2963567
At this point no one is figuring out anything, which is why it's pointless circlejerking. It's always the same arguments and counterarguments, just like powerlevel threads. And there is plenty of bullshit semantics in those threads as well, just of a different kind.

Said it much better than I ever could have.

Fanwank is always bad, and the Umineko/TM threads are full of it. That's the only reason I compare them to Bleach/Naruto/etc. The same type of fanwanking went on in those threads as well back in old /a/.

For the record, I have played Umineko and I listen to the OST quite often. And I will play Umineko Kai (or whatever it's titled) when it comes out. But in the meantime I'll actually play amd discuss other VNs. The large amount of Weekend Friends who haven't played anything else besides Umineko (and possibly KS as well) are slightly disappointing though.

Umineko is a mystery series. The whole point of the series is to discuss what's happening, and trying to solve the mysteries. It's part of what makes a mystery series enjoyable. It's a bit silly to compare it to Type-Moon power levels.
