Map markers genuinely damage your brains ability to not be retarded. Not even joking, there was some study done on that. The reason so many people get frustrated on older games is because older games didn't have the GPS-style of automatically telling you where to go at all times.

I remember "where do I goooooo?" being one of the main complaints when people played the first Dark Souls, as it actually gave them too much freedom on where to go and people hated having choices apparently and got filtered. It also doesn't help that modern fps games with stories are rare and if they are made, they recreate streamlined Hollywood action flicks more than anything.
