I love HL2 because it's a cool mix of FPS and puzzle mechanics that doesn't hold your hand, even if the engine has aged badly, but I also think the story is paper thin and only really gets interesting on the sequel.

Ina played it expecting it to be heavily story focused and having easy to breeze through FPS sections that only stop to give you a cinematic that move the story forward instead of a frustrating puzzle. She literally had the worst possible expectations, but I don't think it's HER FAULT or anything. Game design has just changed, and people have different expectations than they used to.
