It sure is. Normally I just stay on the left bottom corner and eat all the bullets. After taking the first shoot I move to a very far corner and start charging the camera.

What makes it really anoying is after taking the second photo, since Suika shoots a final wave of big bullet when she starts moving. This wave cuts my survival rate by 50%, making it a luck spell card.

I've always wanted to try this. I think for a shooting game this is actually a more reasonable scoring system than grazing, since it encourages killing things as fast as possible. SA doesn't run correctly for me for some reason, but I'll give it a try (if I can find a .dat)

I thought my reply went through a long time ago. Oh well. To get it out of the way, consult the Touhou Wiki then leave the rest to trial and error to map out a scoring route, or watch other runs. Given the relatively small number of point items present in stage one it would be more beneficial to try and produce a chain of flashing UFOs (unless presented with a cluster of point items, likely) to raise the base item value. Also, staying near a small flashing UFO will prevent it from changing. Here's the rather old run with the personal high score. It would be nice to touch up on it and push the score to 250M+ but the full version of the game isn't so far away now.

The game would be Kamui, another Doujin shooter.
Although this one isn't very dodging focused but still very fun.

Your craft has 3 weapons. For one a normal shot, somewhat like ReimuB unfocused in PCB. Second, a giant Lightning beam that cancels bullets and does tons of damage. It recharges from empty to full in about 6? seconds, so you can use it frequently. Third, and most important of all, the Thunder. Thunder will not hit any enemies on your level, but instead targets enemies in the background, below you. It uses the same charge bar as the Lightning beam, however in a different way.

Tunder will consume the entire bar at once, hitting more targets the fuller the bar is when activating it and giving you a multiplier based on this. A full bar thunder will kill enemies at a 16X multiplier, and this includes bosses and their individually destructible parts.
Note that you can use the Lightning beam when the bar is empty, as the beam pushes it back from the right, while thunder regenerates from the left(but can be pushed down by the beam part).

Other things to note for good scoring:

When you stop shooting and press the lightning button, your Thunder will regenerate faster.
Some enemies fall down a level when shot down, giving you a chance to use Thunder on them for the multiplier. In stage 1 this would be the big blue ships.
Always destroy bosses with a 16X multiplier! they will change levels a few times during the fight, use these chances.
You have a shield, so you can take 4 or 5 hits before you die, but no bombs. When in doubt, use your beam to clear bullets.

Most of your scoring in Dodonpachi comes from 2 mechanics: Chaining and Max bomb bonus. How much of your score comes from which can vary a LOT depending on how you play.

Chaining mechanics are mostly pretty obvious: Kill things within about a second of each other. The bar in the top corner shows the timing of the chain. If you laser something, it maintains your chain, but very low on the timer bar. On top of this if you kill something big with a laser, it usually doesn't give you much on your bar, so you have to be ready to hit something within a split second of killing a big enemy with a laser. In practice this usually requires something to be directly behind, but if it's close enough laterally that works too.

Max bomb bonus is activated when you pick up a bomb item at full bombs. The more bombs you pick up the more points you get. It's a constant stream of points, it can actually get up to a rate of about 100k pts every couple seconds in the later parts of the fist loop if you dont bomb/die.

As for the lesser known mechanics:

In stage 3 (in both loops) there is a section where enemies warp in and spam bullets (seen in >>2939010). The 5 big ships in this section provide a couple seconds of bullet-cancel when you destroy the main body (this is fairly obvious the first time you go through this part). However, something I didn't even realize until very recently is that you get a LOT of points for the bullet cancelling. More bullets cancelled gives more points, and you also get points for bullets that are fired by the ships during the cancel. On the first loop if you do it correctly it's worth a couple million points if you take some major risks. On the second loop however it's even bigger, you can get 15 million or more if you really do it aggressively. I'm not sure if it's because the increased bullet count or if each bullet is actually worth more, but I'm fairly sure it's both.

Player selection has a hidden mechanic also. If you play on the 1p side, if you bomb during max bomb bonus, it DOES NOT break your chain like a normal bomb would. Obviously it still breaks max bomb bonus. If you play on the 2p side, the end of stage bonus from the little stars that you collect during the stage accumulate instead of reset each level, so long as you don't die. This is a pretty small bonus but it can add up to a moderate amount if you no-miss pretty far into the game. 1p is basically better unless you could confidently no-bomb the entire game, which nobody can. Regardless, I play 2p side just cause I like the orange/black color of type C, lol. Neither bonus is really that important though, since 90% of the time if you have to bomb a section you probably aren't worrying about chaining anyway.

If you kill parts off of a boss, your boss hit goes up faster for a bigger end of stage bonus, and you also get points for destroying the parts.

There's probably some stuff I'm forgetting but whatever.

You collect them all without dieing, the last one is worth 100000. If you collected them all the bees are worth up to 200000 in the next stage, and so on, up to 1,2 million. It's not really that much considering the effort.
Other than that, if you destroy the first bosses 2 options while they rotate they drop 10 big stars.
Those medium sizes ships that fire 2 streams of X shaped bullets drop a big star if you destroy them when they are at the bottom of the screen.
Every bullet cancelled it worth points too (Stage 3 with the big ships that cancel bullets when destroyed!)

But if you ignore all that and just go for chains and maxbomb bonus you will do good.

Yeah. I didn't mention some of the more specific things like the 1st boss spinning cause it's such a small amount. Also for those who don't know, bees are revealed by hitting them with the FRONT if your laser. So if you are lasering and move over them , they stay hidden, but if you get uner them and then laser, they're revealed.

I did mention the bullet cancelling though.

And about the max vs chaining, you will indeed have a nice score if you no-miss-no-bomb the first loop without chaining. Likewise you can get an even better score if you chained the whole levels then bombed bosses, getting rid of the bonus. So it really just depends on how you play, the ratio can be anywhere.

Actually bees are revealed when you use your shot. they will flicker but stay gray. Shoot them with the laser when they flicker and they will turn gold, works from range as well.

Try to kill as much with fully charged thunder as possible, the 16X multiplier is your main scoring tool.
Bosses give around 50000-90000 X16, so never kill them too early
They will have fires starting at their body when their health gets lot, when you see 4 flames stop firing and wait for your chance.
The screen at the end lists your score per stage. I died at the 4th boss here.

So much for that idea. The screenshots are only there to show the general location of each explanation, and even then it doesn’t contain everything to be mentioned. Just in case it needs to be reminded, your faith will not decrease as rapidly when enemies are present on the screen. Bombs incur a 3K faith penalty, but a deathbomb costs nothing. The intent of this crude guide is to try and create a semi-safe route that will bring about a half-decent score.

1. Slowly collect the items to maintain your nonexistent faith.

2. The fairies will always spawn and travel the same way, have fun creating your own path. Or simply, stream from the left or right end. Not too slow, not too fast and by the time you reach the middle the first large fairy should pop out. All the while items will be dropping down for you to preserve your faith as you take care of the fairy.

3. A good place as any to bomb for faith. Don’t forget to let the screen fill up a bit. This will also make it easier to get into position for #4.

4. More streaming. Fairies that fire a round before moving into your position. When all is done the next large fairy will soon come out and you’ll have items to fill up the gauge, but that alone isn’t enough to keep it from dropping when waiting for more goodies from the larger fairy. You’ll have to lead the smaller fairies up higher before shooting them down but you can watch a world-class run to see it in action. With the pause between this and the next section be sure not to grab the items dropped by the larger fairy all at once. They won’t vacuum in if you don’t focus.

5. As the replay shows, redirect the fairies to follow you up there then stream down. Don’t get caught up there when the others start appearing in masses.

6. Bomb it. More bonus enemies, more bullets, more faith. After making the run I should note that it would be better to bomb earlier than what the replay shows. It’ll catch any fairies about to leave the screen as well as catch the whole of Momizi’s first wave of attack. It would also be better to hold off on shooting as necessary during the second bomb so that more bullets may appear on the screen before defeating her.

7. Fuck, bomb it all but don’t be wasteful. Don’t forget to hog the POC and try to make it a deathbomb.

8. With the oncoming crows hang out at the left side then make a sweep. I don’t know why I didn’t do it. Same plan here as #4, only longer. I’m curious if it would be better to do it from the left. Some of the fairies that pop out on the right are very close to the edge and I may have missed out on the items had I not been streaming down, but they may be spawning just as close to the edge on the left side.

9. Just like #2, create your own path or start from where you left off at #8 and slowly stream to the left. By the time you make it to the end the large fairy should spawn. I’m not sure how many faith items you’ll miss out on by doing that.

10. Ideally, you want to be in the middle to greet the third large fairy after dealing with the first one and hitting the POC. Shortly after that you would bomb and finish the fairy to the right then return to the middle one and be done with it. That wasn’t the case this run and the last fairy was able to make a mess of the screen.

This should help. If you can't line up with the black line by her shoes try to miss it by being below. More leeway down there than to try and chance her sprite hitbox. Bomb about half a second after she announces the spell to retain the bonus.

Without taking that much of a risk you should be able to grab all the items with only two bombs. But yes, do keep an eye out for an opportunity to reach the POC without taking a hit in power, just like the one I passed up when I spent the second bomb. Fell short of 4.00 power because of a faulty micromemorized route for #9 but you could cut down on bombing for #6 or 7 to pull through. That may be true, but there are still useful applications for it. For instance, in PCB with Alice's last noncard you can time your death so her upcoming spread circle wave isn't canceled out by the miss, but you are still invulnerable long enough to enter the center of it. You can even shoot to activate your border while invulnerable and it'll activate as the circle of red bullets closes around you. Special bullets like the notes in Phantom Dinning / Live Poltergeist won't despawn during a miss and you can sit on them to rack up graze.

Bomb Sanae's midboss noncards, too. Having full power throughout the stage means more small pieces of Faith, but no matter how well you do at midboss Sanae, she either gives Power or Spirit, never Faith. This level really rapes your face if you haven't seen it for a while. I've 1cc'd on hard, yet lost 4 or 5 lives running this stage on normal. Part of it was probably me using Marisa to try for a better score, but still, this was pretty bad.

Well like half your fuckin' score on a stage 6 run comes from that one spell card where the wispy things explode then move, youknowtheone. Also helps if you can do that POC technique on the final card for shit tons of full point items.
