People always post these strategies and they never work for me. I start activating counter as I start swinging and it still isn't up by the time I get hit. I long since gave up on killing things myself and went the support route. Healing, first aid, herbalism + potion making to help with mp pot consumption, cooking and campfire when I get the AP for them.

Not all patterns work well on all enemies. Some are just too fucking fast to use Counterattack effectively. Those are the times when you fall back on Defend and Windmill, since they load a lot faster than Counter. Wolves in particular can be tricky since they're faster than a virgin getting blown by Heather Brooke.

Get someone with magic to help you out. Smash the skel wolf, let your helper shoot the wolf while you charge up smash and then smash it again as soon as it gets up (ctrl + left click is extremely useful at this point). OR you two can take turns smashing it but chances are, the other person might get the finishing blow.

You can just use defend on them. They're really not that hard. Also just finished Rabbie Dungeon NIGHTMARE MODO. The bosses were the easiest thing in the dungeon. Srsly.

use pots. Skel wolves hit hard enough so that they can still deal you like 20 dmg even if you're defending, more if they crit. The only thing defend does is stop their combo so you have your chance to attack.

people telling you to counter wolves are giving you shitty advice, that's how I got owned by them when I started out playing, you just need to use defend as you land your last hit, wolves are weak enough that they shouldn't break through defense for more than a few damage (if you get shitty luck and they crit then just counter/defend as you go down).

Only things you need to watch out for are its smash and making sure you attack fast enough after it hits your defense (wolves like to charge through you briefly, click on them immediately, ctrl + click if it helps avoid misclicking, if you wait too long they'll attack again). If it readies a skill then drop defense while running away until you see if it charges at you (smash, attack it) or doesn't (defend/counter, wait it out). I still get owned sometimes by having a mob ready smash too close to me and I don't cancel what I'm doing in time; you should just cancel no matter what when the skill bubble pops up over it to be safe (unless it's something that has windmill, which wolves don't, keeping defend up won't accomplish anything once it readies a skill)

Wtf? How the hell do you get owned by wolves while using counter? unless you run out of stamina, counter pwnz wolves. With defend, you run the risk of being smashed (because sometimes, they're just asses and walk towards you with smash on, and you think they're just defending since they're walking) and the fact that they can counter for more damage than you can defend (a kobold crit me for ~100 dmg once... when I was DEFENDING. I was like holy fuck). Counter is the safest way you can go since you take no melee damage. HOWEVER, you HAVE TO alternate between counter and something else. Doing any skill twice in a row causes more charge up time.

seriously, you're doing something wrong (like fighting skeletons, not skeleton wolves) if you're taking massive damage through defend. I have Rank E defend, with 7 defense and 1 protection normally, and they usually do 1 damage, sometimes a few damage, but that's it. There's lots of enemies (skeletons) you can't use defend against and have to icebolt-counter or whatever, but wolves are one of the enemy types defend is effective against. And using normal attacks + defend is a faster way to kill them unless you have a shitty weapon and great magic skills, so although you *can* use counter it's a waste of time. And when I was a newb I didn't have magic and people were like "lol just use counter over and over" and so I got raped. And I already mentioned smash sometimes does own me, but that's why I said you drop defense and move to a safe distance (then re-ready counter/defense, or attack it, once you confirm what it's doing) as soon as it readies a skill

One failed bloody enchant is like -5 dura... my dress started out with 20 dura and one fail knocked it down to 15 (and Nora just had to knock off another dura).

Even with the 1k elite powder and the enchant skill, if you fail, your item dura still goes down. More so if it's the higher ranked enchants (Like how Bloody is A and tends to knock off a hell lot of dura if you fail). Also, high ranking enchant just means higher chance of enchant burning working (does anyone even use that atm?) and the scroll dura falling less (which is useless before rank c since 2 fails will still bring the scroll dura to 0). The thing that REALLY affects enchant success rate is Int.

Right now everyone is using scrub shit weapons and armors that are worth more breaking than upkeeping with high priced repairs. Repairs that still have a chance to break your shit and make it not worth it the cost. Even is Ferghus DOES break your weapon, it will have been cheaper buying a new one than to have been doing expensive repairs. Especially since at this moment no one even has enchants that are worth it in their weapons.

Only PARTIALLY true. They both have 1.5 second charge time, yes, however, defend has two distinct advantages. First, you can walk away from the enemy to gain a couple more instants to finish charging. Two, you attack between defenses, meaning it will always charge up in the minimum time, while more often with counter, you are using it over and over again.

And when you try to charge up the same skill twice in a row, it takes longer (aka it has a short grayed-out time before it actually starts charging)

A tip for anons like me that find using F-keys a royal fucking pain.
Set your skill tab to combat and rearrange the numeric order of skills by clicking and dragging the images of the desired skill over another. The numbers that corresponds to the skill can then be used by simply pressing the number keys on your keyboard (Not your numpad). Since spells are usually a one off before you go into melee, set them to your F-keys.

ill agree that its slightly annoying that mages are essentially hybrids, but i think the combat system is pretty good. it requires skill and timing rather than just mashing one button over and over.

wasted 10 ap on a worthless skill (meditation) crew checking in. 3 in firebolt, 5 in lightning bolt, 2 in meditation.

150% of shit is still shit. now i can regen 3/4 of a mana bar over the course of the day instead of 1/2, woop de doo. on top of that i cant run or regen stamina.

someone tell me that theres some other skill down this tree that makes it worth it :(

Im planning to leave it at rank F. I tend to use it when I solo dungeons and walk between rooms. It helps alot when you need to grind to get "Kill 300 monsters of similiar level" and you can turn it on and stroll about thwacking spiders with a 1-hit KO firebolt until PAFECTO training is reached.

Ive only ever done that with Healing, since that requires me to heal myself and/or others in deadly status. And im only ever in deadly in midst of battle and rarely at the end.
Still, the best EXP boost I got was around 800 from perfect training firebolt.

Meditation are useless till you are in the higher level,just pump ap in icebolt,firebolt or lightningbolt, but only focus on 1 type you will use alot to rank 1.Get Critical hit, it work with spells, and ap on life skill that give shitload of int *music theory,compose* and you will see huge numbers.
