Anyone here dabble in IPTV? I've spent a month or so trying a few different channel list, only to find that many of them are laggy as shit. The one I found recently appears to be lag-free, but 90% out of the 27 channels are weather, news or home shopping. The file does include Tokyo Mix 1 & 2, but they both seem to go on break and show nothing for hours without any real broadcast.

Anyone have success with Japanese IPTV? I honestly don't want to give up on this without trying every possible option.

I've had no luck since fujiTV closed the free trial shit that everyone abused the shit out of.

I can't justify spending 20 bucks a month on TV, and every free option I've tried is absolute garbage. Who knows, maybe one day Japan will move into the 21st century and they'll have proper VOD services like every other fucking country, so at least I can watch the terrestrial channels online through a VPN. Yes, but I remember it being a bit of a cunt. You need to have an amazon jp account with a legit credit card, register for a trial, and then change your main address to a japanese one and use a VPN. Honestly, there wasn't much on the service, I'd be more interested in Hulu but I don't live in America so I can't even set up an account and try and use the JP servers.

Netflix seems like the best option to me. They don't have a lot of live action stuff, but it's really trivial to access the japanese version.

Trick, a long-running (2000-2014) mystery dramedy. I've heard some people compare it to the X-Files, but it's more like Jonathan Creek if you've seen that. Yukie Nakama plays a shitty street magician with no social skills, Hiroshi Abe plays an arrogant physicist who's making a career out of debunking fraudulent supernaturalists (and solving the seemingly impossible crimes they commit). She can't hold down a job performing, so he's able to persuade her to come along to every case just by covering her rent or providing lunch; and she uses her knowledge of magic tricks to expose each villain's miraculous feats (essentially, she solves the crime, he writes the book about it). Gets more absurd as it goes on, with a lot more slapstick and wordplay by the third series, but the whole premise is on the ridiculous side since it revolves around there being a new folkloric/psychic/religious cult leader to deal with every week. There's a nyaa torrent of the whole thing, series specials and movies, with good subs that explain all the wordplay. Great chemistry between the leads and even the supporting cast (a pair of bumbling corrupt cops assigned to every case with absolutely no interest, magician's rural calligrapher mother who's ironically a swindler herself) holds up generally convoluted plots that aren't always fully resolved. They've also kept the same soundtrack for 6 years so far (I'm just up to the second movie) and it's honestly an impressive exercise in how to get the most out of a dozen tracks

Anyone has Christmas drama recommendations?

Finally finished all of Trick (other than the third series of the Yabe Kenzo spinoff). The specials were a little hit or miss (similar plots started to stack up, and the formula of the "I am Naoko Yamada" intro becomes tedious when you watch them all back-to-back), but the last movie was emotionally satisfying and its climax threw me for a loop, which is fitting. I cruelly hope Nakama and Abe's careers dry up in time for the 25th anniversary, though it's a shame Yoko Nogiwa is no longer around.

Man, the second season of Hanzawa Naoki is seriously incredible.

I like how even more over-the-top everything is and I really grew to like all the characters, Owada, Kurosaki and Fukuyama included.
