Not as much as you'd expect. This is only my second untraslated novel, and I understand about 95% of what's being said.
It's really an amazing game too. Easily the best production values I've seen yet in a VN (not that I have much experience, but still).

は is "ha" because it looks like some snake guy is pointing at a stick and laughing!

む is "mu" because it looks like a cow's head and cows say "muuuuu".

み or "mi" looks like a horse because in my fucked up mind horses say "miii"
