Not sure if this has been brought up yet. One of Frederica Bernkastel's poem from Onikakushi-hen is:

"Do you know what is the sin?
It isn't because you ate the forbidden fruit.

Do you know what is the sin?
It isn't because you listened to the serpent.

You still don't know what is the sin?
Then, that itself is your sin."

Recently, in Umineko Ep. 4, Beato has been bugging Battler about a sin that he has no memory of. Moreover, she seems upset over the fact that he has no memory of ever committing a sin. Does /jp/ think that they may be related?

Over multiple gameboards, no less. Bern sure is crafty.

Oh hell.

Bern's totally playing Battler and Beato like a fiddle.

Does anyone know where I can find all of Bernkastel's poems?

>...according to Rinnosuke, things such as magic, youkai, gods, etc. are able to exist in Gensokyo because people in the outside world actively disbelieve in them — for instance, he deduces that the crested ibis is becoming endangered or extinct in the outside world because of a sudden proliferation in Gensokyo, and in the tie-in manga Silent Sinner in Blue, he manages to find information on the moon landings because enough people have become convinced that they never happened.

tl;dr, Gensokyo and everything associated with it exists because people don't believe it exists. So if Battler actively disbelieves Gensokyo with the same passion he does with Beatrice, even if everyone else believes in it for some reason and Battler is still feeding in the disbelief... yeah.

Ep. 9 Battler travels to Japan after he learns of a rash of homicides. He meets a madman who believes that his loli girlfriend is an eldritch horror from another dimension, which Battler promptly denies. They then engage in combat, the result of which is Battler killing the man with a hatstand-spear. Good End.

>> No.2843509

>>2843491
Well, most people who enter Gensokyo drop their disbelief right off the bat, but since this is Battler we're talking about...

I think this is one of those things where you really don't wanna talk about it because the idea is so hard to try and figure out or because it simply opens a can o' worms no one wants to open.

Unlike piece-Beatrice (if she "exists") and meta-Beatrice (if she "exists") piece-Battler and meta-Battler are pretty much the same person in my book. The only difference is the access to different amounts of knowledge.

>> No.2843617

>>2843605

I think the whole "magic resistance" thing was that Eva-Beatrice, invited into the meta-world, tried to hurt another player in the meta-world. Being only a piece, obviously, she couldn't.

That is, of course, true. You would think, though, that finding the gold would mark her "ascension" to the meta-world, whatever that may mean.

>>2843634
There are usually exceptions.

>>2843655
I don't think she ascended to the meta-world, per se. Even if she was a witch, she was still a piece on the chessboard, like a Pawn that becomes a Queen once it reaches the other side of the board. This Queen though just happened to overthrow one of the players.

>> No.2843870

>>2843688

Yes, Eva-Beatrice doesn't exist outside the episode 3 game board. The pawn/queen metaphor is quite apt; she got promoted, but only within episode 3.
