Are you man enough to attempt JLPT1, /jp/?

Actually, I am curious, is taking the JLPT useful in some way? Besides getting into Todai.

JLPT1 is the hardest, even for JLPT4 (around 100 kanji, 1000 word vocab) you'll need to know the grammar.

>>2835932
well, assuming you know the correct 300 kanji, you're halfway there to being fully prepared for JLPT4 (727 kanji).

>> No.2836034

JLPT4 and JLPT3 are good for someone wanting to learn Japanese, because it gives you a good vocab/grammar base to get started from. But 1 and 2 have so many obscure kanji and grammar questions that even native speakers have trouble with it. Pass 3 and then if you want more, focus on some of the newer tests that focus on real Japanese instead of obscure nonsense.

There are a few torrents out there that have all the JLPT tests from 1990 to 2005. Print them out and take one test every few days while you're studying, then trade them and go over what you miss. That will give you a clear view of what you are weak on. I did this when I took JLPT3 and passed easily with 85%, because I had already done the test a few dozen times.

2000 kanji aren't that much. If you've used Japanese long enough to be able to pass the reading part of the test you'll be able to read more than that. Don't forget that the JLPT has no writing part at all.

Seriously.
JLPT4 is pretty easy if you actually study for it.
3 is doable with hard study.
2 if you are fluent.
1 is shit not even average japanese people know about. Sure, it is the equivalent of higher language (like knowing all technical words in your mothertongue) but it's stuff an average person normally doesn't know about.

Haha, with just casual study of about an hour a day of reading japanese manga for 6 months I was able to pass JLPT 3 with only about a week of specilized study to reinforce grammer rules.

JLPT 4 is so easy it's a joke. You could probably wing it even if all you knew was the 70 or something kanji you need for it, plus knowing what "ha" and "desu" are.

well, i go to evening school learning japanese. its only one time per week wednesday for one hour and a half and i am doing in now for about 8 months.

i have a friend who is actually studying japanese on a university and i am learning sometimes with him together.

i am about to take the jlpt 3, because 4 is a waste of money, i could pass the jlpt 3, but there are still some kanjis i need to learn if i want a better grade. i have time until december 1st so it shouldnt be a problem. still it was alot of work these past 8 months, and it isnt something you could easily achieve, everyone who says it isnt is a liar or a ignorant japanese person.

besides my classmates in evening school really suck at japanese, at most they can read 30 hiragana and dont even know shit about katakanas not to mention any kanjis.

>> No.2840559

For reference, the official explanation text for JLPT1 states that it is intended for language learners with 900 hours of study. You can probably draw your own conclusions from that.
