Post photographs and videos you or others have taken around Japan.
Modern or traditional, urban or rural, landscape or macro, anything is good.
Try to keep pictures natural looking if possible.
If you know the location a photo was taken, it is useful to post it with the image.

The Anon who usually started, kept and archived these threads had to leave in late 2019, and asked for someone to take over while he was away, we managed to keep this going for a few months, but then the threads started to die too soon.
(Original Anon is back, feel free to take over if/as soon as you can! )

Please, everybody help keep these comfy threads alive.

That's "World Kaikan"( ワールド会館) A mall, most busineses are closed, but a few bars, karaokes and restaurants remain open.
It was built in the 60s, bars and karaokes there always had a bad reputation for ties with the yakuza and shady stuff, a lot of businesess closed with the burst of the bubble in the early 90s, and there're been a lot of urban legends about the place since... suicides, murders, dissapearcendes of tenants... Now only a few bars remain open, one of wich is owned by a budist monk, and all the cocktails have budism-related names.
You really should visit if you like places like that (I do) because I don't think it has much time left before it's torn down

It's right next to Nakano Broadway, a famous and huge shopping arcade with a retro feel that has a shit-town of anime merchan shops, including 16 mandarake shops, each one specialiced in one kind of merchan

I love 70s/80s Japan. Maybe the change hasn't been as pronounced as in the west because of all that japanese peculiarities, and in some places and alleys you can almost feel like it's the 80s, but things have definetly changed a lot, I wish they hadn't

Yup, China (including HK) represents around 30% of the total foreign tourism in Japan, followed close by South koreans being around 25%, then Taiwan somewhere between 15-20% if I recall...
All the other countries combined, included USA, EU, and tej rest of asian countries, make up for the remaining ~25%

>>28978455
Oh, yeah I noticed those huge groups in some other places too, they make you feel like you are in some kind of amusement park... the most anonnying park is to see they don't care at all to be treated almost like cattle...
Also, The day I visited Nikko was very cloudy and foggy, and there was this festival but I dont think it fell on a weekend, so maybe I was lucky and there were less tourists than usual.

I had a similar experience. I was there for the Yayoi festival before Golden Week in 2017, and there were surprisingly few tourists. Most of the people did seem to be Japanese. Though Christmas-New Year week of 2019 was an absolute nightmare (not too surprising) on the other hand. Went on a weekday between the two holidays, and nearly everything was a long line shuffling through the complexes. Only a couple of those tourists bothered to make the trek up to Chuzenji though, so that was nice. For Kyoto in my spring 2017 trip I just got up super early to hit Fushimi Inari at sunrise, and after that I went over to Kyomizu-dera while it was still slow and mostly empty.

I have a question for people familiar with photographic work from/in Japan.
My gf is extremely into everything regarding photography and japanese contemplative work. I have to admitt she is extremely more versed in the whole japan thing than I am, so sorry if I come off as a noob.
Anyway, I wanted to get her something related to photography of cats or streetlife in japan for christmas and don't know where to start -i.e. where to look for photo magazines, if there're staples in this style from japan, where to ship them, etc.
Any recs or tips for how to proceed would be of much help. Thanks in advance!

Went to Nikko last year, I didn't see any Chinese there, and it was pretty comfy. I'll post some pics if I find them.

Nope, its some random falls near Okutama, pretty much ignored by others than maybe a couple local hikers a day (like any other of the thousands of non-famous falls in Japan) it I think it's called Hyakuhirono falls or something.
Even in a quiet town like this with so little tourists, there was a couple of relatively known hiking routes around falls, closer to the town in top of that (Unazawa falls was one of them I think) so this one and all the other one I suppose there must be, remain virtually ignored.
I choose this one in particular instead bc you had to hike trough a forest of really tall japanese cedars and I liked the idea.
But, of course, once there things didn't go according to keikaku...

Next bus to the head of the trail arrived in like one hour, but of course, I could read shit in the timetable, so I didn't know.
But a couple of women like in their 50s, with worried faces, started looking at me sitting in the bus stop... one of them approached me and tried to tell me about the bus, pointing at the timetable.
So with the help of google translate and very expresive gestures, she made her point, I thanked her profusely, and told something like "well, what can I do? I'll have to wait!" (walking to the place was about +1 hour anyway)
But she didn't resign to it... as soon as one of those TINY Kei trucks passed by, she basically tackled it told the man (in his 30s) something, the man gestured me to hop in the cabin.
I thanked the woman again, hopped into the truck, showed the man the placed I wanted to go in Gmaps and said something I understood as a "no problem, bro".
The man didn't stop talking for the whole 20min trip, even tho first thing I said was "sorry, I cant speak japanese" In japanese, so I spent 20 minutes just nodding
Once in the head of the trail, I said gooobye and thanks to my friend, started hiking aaaaand inmediatly got lost as I noticed I wasn't approaching the fall at all (I only had the location of the fall itself, not the path to it)
Fortunately, the only soul I encontered in this whole time, was a man fishing in the river who spoke perfect english, and told me I was in the wrong path, I had to go back to a paved road, follow it for like 3kms, then take a mountain path in a curve in the road just before a bridge. Thank you man
In my way there I only passed by a group of like 15 elderly people on a a tour, each and every one of wich greeted me as I passed them, and two couples wich were returning from the place, when I arrived to the fall I was alone there for all the time I spent there.
Such an awesome day, man.
God, I miss when things didn't go according to keikaku in Japan

No sound bc 4chan doesn't allow it, but it was relaxing as fuck

Every fucking time. There is not a single Japanese person who can stay quiet during a car ride, they HAVE to talk
