Honestly idols and similar groups like these are probably some of the most accessible performers there are. They have a lot of opportunities for you to meet them at events compared to pretty much any Western pop act, and if you ever see them when they appear at an international event, they show a lot of appreciation for your support that almost certainly isn't fake.

Of course there's always going to be some distance between performers and fans, but I would say that this is one of the genres where the distance is smallest. I'd definitely recommend trying to see them at a convention or similar event if you can; it makes them feel a lot less like an abstract thing when you've seen them in person.

I really want to see any of the seiyuu in person at least once, but most of the time I've known about them I have lived 1000+ miles from any place with conventions they come to in the US.
