Fuck, what's wrong with you, OP. The PC98 days was where ZUN got his roots, culminating to MS where he really got the gameplay and bullet patterns down to a science.

But EoSD was the beginning of ZUN's popularity. Know why? It's on a superior platform (PC98 couldn't do shit), had a better written story with less plot holes and random killing, and had much, much better music. Then came PCB, where ZUN smoothed out the transition between difficulties and added the visible hitbox during focusing- a great step forward. He then moved to IN, where he went another step forward with the story, giving many different routes and more defined characters (even if it's somewhat confusing as to which actually happened). PoFV was a VS shooter, ZUN wanted to change it up. And finally, MoF was in the same vein as MS and IN combined, focusing on improved gameplay and a well-told story, whether you agree or not is up to you.

tl;dr: Not one of the PC98 games can live up to their predecessors, stop being a nostalgiafag

Like it even matters in Touhou. In one game they travel to another dimension, in the next they visit SDM, yet another features moon people and nobody seem to care about all of this since no one remembers any of those events in the next games or even mentions them(except for lonely Alice). It doesn't help that dialogues doesn't make much sense either. Face it, the storyline in Touhou isn't really that important. It's just another excuse for a new danmaku game.

SoEW is garbage. Having enemies spawn from the bottom of the screen and in places where they can easily crash into you with no warning whatsoever does not make a good game.
