Aaahhh, hopeless, you're all hopeless. The person reading the novel is a game piece. As long this piece keeps talking about Beatrice, she'll 'exist'. In the first episode, in the tea party section, the characters refer to "umineko no naku koro ni" as a game, a VN. As the VN goes on, the tea party keeps getting closer and closer to the main episode, ending with episode 4's tea party being part of the actual episode.
