Is there a way to make the Hori Project Diva arcade controller less noisy?
The activation zone for those buttons seems be less than half a millimeter so I've kinda given up on the plan to pad the bottom of their cups somehow.

USC and KSM support two keyboard bindings, you set the 2nd binding to basically reverse your 1st.

For instance, my bindings were
1: SDKL, CM, WE/IO
2. HJFG, NV, WE/IO

You bind it in a way that covers the entire controller for both hands. After that just get used to it and play more.

There is a metric fuckton of charts in satellite that are good practice for chordstreams. It's even better than insane scale, because it has way less soflan/scratch bullshit in the early levels (sl1~5 compared to sp1~9). Just start picking random songs from the table and 3 times out of 5 it's going to be a chordstream chart.

Got a few questions for you lads, purely for discussion.

Do you lot listen to Bemani artists' music outside of rhythm games? And if you do who do you think makes the best/most underrated music?

I found some of Aran and Srav3r's stuff from their EPs and Irregular, and goddamn I don't know why they don't make more music like this. Aran's slow stuff is super comfy and Money is Power by Srav3r is earsex. Masayoshi's DECADE4ALL album has some zoomer tracks but other than those, Hopez is a gorgeous song along with a few bangers. Lastly, Revolver by Massive New Krew is literally Freedom by USAO but better.

While Bemani games have some killer tracks, I now can't help but feel that we get only a small dosage of the capabilities these artists have. I get that most of the games need autistic BPM button spammy sounding songs to work right, but if IIDX can have songs like Exchange Place and Cranberry City, I'm a little disheartened to find less listenable songs as time passes from one generation of a game to the next.

Because then it would have a 3 frame window instead of 2.

When a window is 2 frames wide, the player will tend to try to hit between them. "0" and "1" internally might just be "-0.5" and "0.5" from the player perspective.

trying to get into rhythm games, started briefly with osu!mania and upon reading some guides moved on to LR2 with the GENOSIDE 2018 pack to begin with
while it's been a good few days, i'm feeling the need to get more songs already - anyone got tips for a decent pack to get? i'm pretty bad at the game so far, obviously, so it'd be preferable if it wasn't all high-level

also, using LSHIFT SDF SPACE JKL keybinds (7k) because it's a hand position i am used to from typing, ut is there something else i might want to consider?

Just make sure your keyboard supports n-key rollover since some BMS requires you to press 6 keys at the same time.

Would recommend a controller (Phoenixwan, YuanCon, GAMO) for scratch-heavy BMS. May not possible to do this with keyboard.

Also, get a HDD.

KB players are such trash. If I made a rhythm game where the only thing you do is wag your dick in front of a sensor, I'm pretty sure some dude would still try to play it with a keyboard because that's what they do: play every single game with a keyboard.

playing 1048 is a skill (not comfortable at first and is unnatural)
wristing is a skill (hard to do it well, have to have hands/wrists big enough to do it)

all of this is way harder than having any key binds you want ergonomically and being able to cover 4 keys + turntable. if iidx players could pick whatever key layout they wanted, there's no way in hell anyone would use the default one.

>anyone got tips for a decent pack to get?
Tables/scales are a good way to get into the game and play a bunch of decent charts. I recommend downloading table packs from here (https://bms.kyouko.moe/index.html)) rather than downloading the large as fuck Insane BMS torrent that has way too many shitty charts that you will never play in your life. Also, since you're using LR2, set up BeMusicSeeker if you haven't done so already. It will organize the charts from the table packs into folders for each difficulty level of the table. The packs you'd want are 通常難易度表 and 第2通常難易度表; these are the normal, not insane, scales.
If tables aren't enough for you and you want to discover more BMS songs and charts, download event packs here (https://package.bms.ms).

>using LSHIFT SDF SPACE JKL keybinds (7k) because it's a hand position i am used to from typing, ut is there something else i might want to consider?
Bind a second key to scratch. Any scratch-heavy chart will knock you on your ass. You do not have the pinky strength to jack through those, so you should learn to alternate and play with a dual scratch key config. The most common thing people do is use both pinkies for scratching. Other than that, that's a pretty standard layout you have and it will work just fine.

and listen to >>27824503, if you want lots of packs and shit you will definitely need a dedicated, or at least decently empty, HDD to store all of it.

1048 is the most natural feeling shit ever, you're the physical manifestation of cancer and autism if you think it's remotely difficult

same goes for wristers who say the same thing just so they can excuse themselves and feel better about themselves for needing to wrist just so they're remotely decent at the game

1048 shiki in the west wasnt adopted as a best practice until almost 10 years after footage of it released. This only happened because ASCs became the standard and not KOCs which allowed you to cheese the turntable with its shorter distance.

Keep talking out of your ass buddy.

I mean you want to talk about Japan, all you have to do is look at footage from 2005 and onwards and you see shit like symmetrical being the meta until the game got more difficult, and bms became more widespread.

It probably didn't become standard until tricoro onwards. Far cry from "several years".
