Well, she's still new and her command of the language is not complete, give her some some more time. I wouldn't think s plain and common girl would participate in beauty contests, regional competitions and SuperGirl (the Chinese version of American Idol). What about LinLin then? She's done the same at an even younger age but a lot of people hate her for some reason. I'm not saying that all those things are not to be admired and praised. I agree that there's strong character behind both the Chinese girls but at the same time, they don't have "characters".

I thought JunJun and LinLin had the most potential when they first appeared. I also think that many of you are hyped on that idea of "potential" since things have been going negatively lately. For example, Junjun gets tons praise for eating a freaking banana. Really, have they shown anything "substantive" in character? All I've seen are air○○ gags and bananas. You're right, it's only been a year so I'm still going to keep an eye on them. So for now, I've decided that Sayu does show more substance(and I'm sure many of you will disagree with me).

What I just typed up doesn't necessarily apply specifically to anyone this thread. It's just some things that I've noticed across the entire online H!P community, which I'm sure most of you also engage in.

I download things off of H!O, but the only time I said anything in the forums was because I was complaining i was downloading at 4 kb/s

I don't really know much about the new kids. I've really only seen 3 or 4 episdoes of Haromoni@, and it's all been Moutube crap.

That being said, because they had that thing with the air sports or whatever, and then the quiz on the Japanese things...it seems like they're the only ones that do anything.

At the same time, when i watch older material (the Okajo sports festival thing with Okamura) then I appreciate the younger ones. For some reason, Gaki actually used to have some kind of spark that made me like her(maybe the spark of potential) that I just don't see in her anymore...

Also, Tsuji also had the same kind of "fakeness" in her that I see in the new kids today. Kago seemed way more "real" than her, which is why I like Kago so much better. For some reason, Tsuji just seemed fake to me -- and that's the same thing I get from the girls these days.

I also think Aika has some of that potential as well. Although, I dont' see her do anything -- she always seems to be sincere

The "character" that most people refer to are quirks and random actions that the girls do or some distinctive trait of their personality. For example, Eri who random and bluffs all the time, Sayu gets "black" sometimes, Ai is bad at speeches etc.
I think we can trace this to the former generations. For example Tsuji and Kago, since they joined they were doing silly things all the time, even on camera. People/wota want to know everything about their idols, and those two were the ones who showed more of their personality.

Considering that nowadays the girls they just sit around some corridor with a cardboard background in the studio, JunJun going random (eating a banana in a ping pong match, requesting bananas in the middle of the program) and doing silly things is something good. She's the only one going "all out" and doesn't give a fuck about embarrassment. Again, this is my view of the things.

And LinLin's a good girl, she does her assigned tasks and doesn't do anything unnecessary, and thus, she doesn't stand out.

I guess that's your take on them not caring about embarrassing themselves. To me, they just look clueless all the time. I don't really mind them showing embarrassment after doing something stupid. They've already decided to go through it in the first place. But still, I cannot understand why people like the airOOs and the banana eating so much. IMO they're NOT stupid enough. I even like Doi Takako better, although that's pretty bad too.
