See, this is what it says on the wiki:

1. Talk to her once.
2. Talk to her after fighting with Shibata Katsuie in battle together again.
3. Talk to her at 7 Normal to get to Trust.

Obviously I've got this far because she's at max Trust now. But then it says:

4. There will be an event at the beginning of a turn where you and Shibata Katsuie see her undress, afterward talk to her again. Afterward wait a few more turns and another event will happen then after that you clear her.
5. Deploy Ranmaru along with Shibata Katsuie in battle. (Ranmaru & Shibata Katsuie get ATK & DEF Buff if they are deployed in battle together)

These last two stages won't happen.

My random glances at threads about this game has taught me that it should be something like Romance of the 3 Kingdoms. Now I honestly don't know what the hell is going on.

It's basically Samurai Warriors 2 Empires or Shogun Total War. Though rather than their respective battle systems, this has one like Advance Wars or Suikoden. When you take a new territory, you fuck the princess of that area. You also generally fuck most women you meet sooner or later.

You have to split your time between doing things like invading neighbouring regions, checking out dungeons, spying on people, fucking, improving your own regions and spending time with your various generals in order to raise their abilities.

Yep. I started playing it on Tuesday night at about 11PM and didn't stop until 11AM Wednesday. The same thing happened Wednesday night; now it's 8:47AM. I don't think any "proper" game has grabbed me like this for ages. You can really see why this is the longest running h-game in existence, though oddly the hentai is a very small part of the appeal.

I just wish someone would translate some of the other Rance games. I'm sure the earlier ones would have very little text compared to modern doujin games that get translated.

Beginning of turn events will only occur if no other beginning of turn events take presidence, and only one event will occur per turn. Therefore you might've simply built up a large stack of beginning of turn event, and Ranmaru's is at the bottom.

As it stands only the main route and the Kenshin route are translated. On your first playthough you can only go on the main route but you'll still find some things untranslated. Some are minor, like the personal names of units, but others are more annoying, like entire conversations in certain side-plots. It's only the version 0.5 patch after all.

Hmm, I'm fairly sure that Tenshi attacked me early in the game. The only thing iI don't like about this game is that there are all these hidden "tipping points" where a seemingly generic and run-of-the-mill action actually makes a huge difference because all these story events start happening and fuck you over. For example, fuck all was happening just but then I declared war on the musket guys. All of a sudden Nobunaga breaks another urn, Kou gets kidnapped, Mouri destroy the other kingdom in one go, Chaos gets taken away from me and the demon guys start their story.

Well there is the translation of ふふふふ into "fufufufu". I know that's the generally official way, but in this context it's more of a "huhuhuhu" or indeed "hehehe" as we English-speaking people would say it.

It's like how Spanish people write "jajaja" for laughter but it's actually more like "hahaha", because of how they say "ja".

Again, this is something that all sorts of professional translations do, so I'm not saying it's a huge problem or anything.

I'm confused. What exactly triggers the Xavier stuff? It seems that once that happens, you're pretty much shafted in terms of conquering more land. Does it happen by a certain turn, in which case you're just meant to conquer as much stuff as possible before X turn?

I haven't fought most of the other armies yet and I'm now at the point where I'm not allowed to fight other armies apart from proceed to Honnouji and fight Xavier's bodyguards. Reading the wiki, it sounds like once this gets rolling, the shit really hits the fan and you can't really do much other than fight the demon army.

In fact, the event that broke the 5th gourd was when the Mouri suddenly took over the Asashi region. That triggered all this shit and I've been stuck having to fight these apostle bastards while at war with two other countries.

That's actually a minor part of it. And he's strictly against fucking lolis. 95% of the time you're playing something akin to Shogun Total War, as far as the strategy map is concerned, and like Advance Wars crossed with Suikoden as far as the battles are concerned.

For the OP, I do NOT do anything about Ranmaru and I still get her character clear before the game ends. But yeah, her max is 7 trust.

Not everyone falls in love with Rance in the true history route.

HOW do you make Yamamoto 56 fall in love with Rance? She is the only one of all the ones possible in the game to fall in love with Rance that I have never been able to get beyond Trust 7.

It takes several playthroughs to actually see the patterns of successful assault you can do before the 5th urn breaks. And then, before the Demon army starts conquering other houses.

Here's a piece of advice. Don't fight the Asakura or Takeda. Just declare war on Hojo and Uesugi at the same time instead after you've gained control of the minor central states. Leave Tenshiism alone as well as Iga. Leave them for later.

Fight Hojo first and make sure Souun disappears, and be sure to clear Komatsu before you recruit Ran. Then you can finish their events before taking over Uesugi.

If you do that, you'll get around 3 broken urns by that time, leaving you the chance to break 2 more urns in the Akashi AND the Mori, which are the two necessary factions for the late game.

Hmm, I don't really see how it could go differently. I struggled horribly from about turn 30 but as soon as I finally defeated the Miko and the Tenshi, it got really easy again. Then the Xavier shit happened. The problem is that, apart from in the lull, I never felt in control. I got shitloads of story scenes and just got steered through various battles and plotlines. When I play next time, I don't see how I can break away from the people that will attack me, so I don't see how I can conquer different areas.

You know, most things don't have to be done several time to enjoy. Oh, I've read that book but I have to read it 5 more times to get the whole story. IRL you just do things once, there is no "completion rate" or whatever. I don't consider that I've "completed" going to the pub to a 50% rate or whatever. You just do them and they're fun. Most games really go downhill at the end and once I know the story, it's dull as fuck to read it all over again. It's all about seeing it for the first time.

When IF routes open, you have both points to invest and better fighting strength, plus you have to attack certain houses before a certain point to get to the route.

Don't defeat Tenshiism. It will not drag you into the whole vortex of events forcing you to follow several plotlines.

I also do this by dealing with the Tokugawa before anyone else, as well as Natori. Having Natori and Sen alone are good enough.

Also, don't rape the woman from Hojo after you've defeated the Imagawa. If you want to fight Hojo, just declare war with both Uesugi and Hojo so the Takeda won't swallow anyone up.

Declare war against both Tanegashima and Akashi at the same time so Mori doesn't do the same thing.

Well as I said, almost everything that happened in this playthrough happened to me, not at my choosing. I got attacked by the various armies and fought back. That caused a chain of events that led to where I am now. The only bit I made a choice was when I left the Asai people alone for a bit and built up my army. The next thing I did caused about 6 things to happen at once, one of which was the appearance of Xavier.

Yes, basketball or something is different but basketball isn't so bound up in triggers and stuff like that. If every time you played basketball the same guy tackled you in the same way, you lost the ball in the same way and then he scored in the same way (and repeat) it would get dull quickly.

My perspective is that I'm not doing this as some sort of sport, it's a fairly linear narrative with a linear battle system that won't vary that much each time, like rolling a ball down a hill. Once I see what happens, have seen all the units and so on, the "thrill" (for want of a better word) of discovery has gone.

What I did seemed to make sense; I got Natori and had it so the Asai were just stuck sending out crappy forces that even my worst units could destroy. It was only when I attacked the rifle place that everything went down the shitter.

This game's quite fun but I don't think I'll replay it since it just seems to be about walking on eggshells so as to avoid triggering any fatal events. It's less a strategy game and more a game of Russian Roulette where you have to guess/eventually figure out where the "bad targets" are and where the "good targets" are.

You don't need to actively supress the riots. Once it gets to 100%, a single unit will attack you. If you can defeat the single, weak unit, it gets reset to 0%.

It's a hard thing to do. I wasn't able to do it until I played the First game for the third time. You build your army up by recruiting prisoners and getting reinforcements from the continent. And there are times when you have to give up one town from a territory to the Tenshikyou to blitz an entire territory with three towns from the Miko Kikan after you've planned well.

It's not just a fight game. Building up the army counts too.

There is only one event where this happens, and it's the Ashikaga and Hara alliance. It'd be better if you just paid the Ashikaga money while you took on the Tokugawa for Senhime before fighting them.

At the same breath, defeat Ashikaga, leave Hara alone. Defeat Natori first.

This will train you to handle two countries at once.

Yay, managed to defeat Nobunaga without any continues (second try though because I picked the wrong starting characters the first time around and had to continue twice).
