You can, western people just didn't do it, Japan now figured out its easier to get western weebs to give a girl streaming games 300$ than to make them pay for a BD set of a well made anime for 200$

Crunchyroll and netflix ruined anime in the west, garbage light novel adaptations ruined it in the east

When you buy anime merch you get physical goods that you permanently own and can sell later at least. When paypigs donate to le ebin shark girl, they just get the dopamine hit of making other paypigs envious for a few seconds, which in turn makes more paypigs donate as form of competition.
