the mpv script makes card creation definitely faster than the sharex way but it heavely relies on perfectly synced subtitles* which are a luxury.
the manual way might take 20 seconds longer but the card always comes out however you want it.

*resyncing subtitles even with alass is a pain in the ass.

-vf colormatrix=bt709:bt601 is for use with files which have a bt709 colormatrix (bd or webstream anime rips, anything from youtube, etc. - you can check colormatrix of a video by opening it in mpv and pressing i) since libvpx can't detect colormatrix on its own and will screw up the video colors if you don't specify it

Do you think it's better to watch the episode first then read it for new words, or read it first?

On one hand, if you read it first then you have no visual context and you don't know who is speaking when. On the other hand, knowing the words already when you're listening (with subtitles in my case) is also probably beneficial.
