Good anon of /jp/, today I come to you on bended knee with palms upturned and in need of assistance. Despite having a hand in just about every other weaboo hobby possible, I'm ashamed to say I've only played one VN. That one VN was Yume Miru Kusuri. I had heard a few good things about it and DL'd it on a whim almost two years ago. Needless to say, I laughed, I bawwed, d'awwwd, and fapped more than once.

In the back of my mind I had always planned on playing more VNs but I just never got around to it for one bullshit reason or the other. Well now I have the time and I want to make up some lost ground. Could I impose upon you gentlemen for one or two "/jp/ approved" lists like every board seems to have for newb usage? I'm basically starting from scratch here with no real idea of where to start. In addition, if you could also tell me the names of a few good sites for finding VN torrents I'd be eternally grateful.

Shameless bump.

>> No.2686401 [DELETED]

/jp/ doesn't move fast enough that you would have to bump after three minutes.

But anyway:
Clannad
Saya no Uta
Planetarian
Umineko no Naku Koro ni
Ever17 -the out of infinity-
Wanko to Kurasou
Chaos;Head
Utawarerumono
True Remembrance
Narcissu
Princess Waltz
D.C. ~Da Capo~
Kana ~Imouto~

I think that about covers all of the best translated visual novels.

For torrents consult isohunt.com

I recommend:
Ever 17 (worksafe but bricks will be shat)
Tsukihime
Fate/Stay Night
Saya no Uta
Planeterian (worksafe and no choices, but god damn baw inducing)

These aren't top tier but good nontheless (mostly harem stuff):
Da Capo (bawww)
Utawarerumono (Fightan game)
Crescendo
Snow Sakura

That's all I can come up with from the top of my head and should keep you busy for a while. For order I suggest just starting at the top of the list and working your way down.

>> No.2686399

This is probably going to be saged since there are a lot of VN recommendation threads, but you made a nice post so I'll try helping. Note: these are in a random order and I'm really only listing those which are popular or liked by many, some are also personal preferences of mine but /jp/ also discusses them sometimes as well.

F/SN
Tsukihime + Kagetsu Tohya
Ever17
Saya no Uta
Umineko
Chaos;Head
Planetarian
Phantom of Inferno
Clannad
Kana Imouto
MOON
Princess Waltz

>> No.2686404

Wanko to Kurasou might be within your tastes, OP.

you could also take a shot at Fate Stay night and Tsukihime.

Behold /jp/s Master XDCC server

in before KATAWA SHOUJO....

anyways you should tell us what you like if u want recommendations. cause i know plenty of people that love VN's and cant stand things like FSN cause it's sooo fucking lonnnnng

Isohunt. Really? I had always assumed there was some semi-secret hideout for VN enthusiasts. Regardless though, I thank you.

>>2686399
Yeah, I realized that but I'd figure I'd give it a shot anyway. I really appreciate the suggestions. Thank you.

/jp/ isn't /a/, you don't need to bump a post after 3mn to avoid page 10

That's pretty silly.

Isohunt, piratebay, ect. The big torrent websites basically carry everything, including visual novels.

Some of the older or smaller VNs are also on /rs/. I always check there first since torrents download slow.

>> No.2686434

On the subject of VNs, is Love Death 2 any good? It looks like it has some semblance of a story unlike many other 3D games, and looks to be partially translated - but the fucking thing is like 7 Gigs or some shit. Is it worth the D/L?

While not exactly a secret, FAKKU's User Uploads section has a pretty big VN section with Rapidshare/Megaupload links. You do have to sign up to view the board though.

Yeah, old habits die hard and so shown are my true colors.

>>2686413
Eh, yeah. I actually happened to download the KS demo today. Haven't played it yet though.

As for my tastes. I'm not really sure. I may sound like a woman but I like a good romantic tear-jerker. Doesn't hurt if it's funny either. I'm really open to most anything at this point.

Good luck finding a working torrent for that, I've only found one that wasn't completely dead but that was totally bogged down by leechers it wasn't going anywhere

The semi-secret hideout is Hongfire. You can get most popular VNs that have not been officially released in English (so pretty much everything here except Ever17, Da Capo, Snow Sakura, Phantom of Inferno, Kana, Princess Waltz and Crescendo) there.

Also, I can't believe nobody's mentioned Clannad yet. Good, romantic, a tear-jerker and funny.

Pretty much every VN with a romantic plot has at least one girl meant to make you baww. So that's not too hard to find.

Kana for serious BAWWW

>> No.2686484

Try bible black, i had tons of fun playing that. it doesnt have a dramatic or romantic story tough.

Theres also a /jp/ channel on IRC where you can download stuff over IRC http://gilheney.com/VNs/index.php?bot=[jp]VNs-English

i'm serious, it was the 3rd vn I played. it's very fun, you get good vs bad choices unlike most vns and its pretty short. The art is kinda crappy compared to yume miru kusuri but its tollerable.

Speak of Phantom of Inferno, how do you tell which version is the non-broken one? I downloaded the links from /rs/ and it wouldn't extract.
Also, anyone tried this game yet? It sounds like a situation similar to PoI, but probably a lot shittier.

Even though the OVAs made me groan, I might just check it out since you seem so adamant.

Read Saya no Uta.
It takes like, 3-6 hours total depending on how quick a reader you are.

Also Clannad, Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime, Umineko, Chaos;Head, Planetarian, etc.
