hi /jp/. i admit im usually lurking in /a/ but i think this topic is relevant to you guys instead of them.
simply put. i am obsessed over shirou. not the person, but the ideal. the point to save everyone. at first i used to help people because i thought that they would return the favour. but i realize im always alone. now i just help people for the sake of helping someone.

i just ask, is this bad for me? am i really an idiot?

Remember when you save some chick to always jam it in the backdoor. They appreciate that.

up to you if it's bad or not, it really doesn't matter either way

If you're sustaining yourself and aren't leeching from others I don't see the problem. It's a lifestyle choice. Rather than going to the pub and watching the game, you help others. As long as you don't get any sense of of entitlement from it, you're fine.

Don't try to be Shirou.
You can't make everyone happy. Even Shirou came to realize this in the end.

Shirou was not only altruistic, but also a perfectionist. He didn't just want to help people, he wanted to help EVERYBODY.

Altruism can help you become a very nice and helpful person. The negative side of it is that you probably won't get anything back for it, and if you take it too far it'll even cost you. It sucks, but that's how life works. Whether or not you want to keep helping people even if it doesn't benefit you in any way is up to you.

Perfectionism allows you to achieve good results and not give up. The negative side of that is you'll never be able to do anything perfectly and it'll frustrate you. If you take it too far, you can get obsessed with trying to perfect something that can't be perfected, leading only to wasted effort and possibly more problems. I personally think perfectionism is bullshit because good results can be achieved even without perfectionism, but that's just my opinion.

>"Emiya Shirou can keep his dream until the very end. Even if... what I seek is nowhere."
It's said in a rather dramatic way, but the part here that screws him over isn't the altruism, but the perfectionism. He wants to do something in a perfect way (saving EVERYBODY), which he will of course never be able to do, since perfection just doesn't exist.
He's able to help people just fine, just not in the perfect way he wants.
