She has no physical limitation or disability. She is merely at the school to help progress her studies in sign language and gaining experience in handling those less capable of speech or standard communication simply because that's what she want's to do in her career.

She is the proverbial "normal" yard stick to which each other girl is meassured and ultimately compared with by the player but is utterly unobtainable so as to represent Hisao coming to terms with the fact that yes, he is no longer "normal" by the majorities' standards but that doesn't matter to him and the other less able girl he loves.

Eventually when Katawa Shoujo Alternative is released Misha reprises her role as the "normal one" stuck in a unit of former cripples repaired and put back into the meatgrinder through superior technology, albeit this time all of them psycologicaly derranged.

After playing through everyone else's endings where Hisao and the Yamaku squadron are destroyed eitherway Misha's route becomes playable where it's revealed that her psychological dissorder is that she's an empathic martyr. This combined with her constant exposure to Shizune's Psyche Speech and Lily's Extra Sensory Vision results in Misha skirting godhood, just enough to reset time just as the Yamaku are destroyed, eventually opening up the way for Hisao to set everything right and put the timeline back into a correct format as shown in Katawa Shoujo.

Additional Details: Hisao Nakai was once a simple Japanese student living what was to be another simple life, another statistic, another momentary flicker of life amongst the 6.9 billion on our home. On a cold and snowy day that flicker of life vanished as Hisao collapsed just as his existence was about to accelerate onto a new stage.
Evading the scythe of death he wakes up, not to the world he nearly left behind but to a universe filled with stars a mere touch away. Humanity has run afoul of an enemy that threatens to not only extinguish the 6.9 millions flames spread across the universe but an enemy that also consume the very stars.
The only one in this 'new world' who remembers the mundane one from which he originates Nakai finds himself having to live up to the expectations of all those around him whilst having to make the choice between finding a way back to a life he may no longer live or this world where he still has a chance.

Additional Details: Shizune's close friend and translator in the original continuity Shiina has the added privilege in Alternative of having the most important route out of all the girls.
During everyone else's route Shiina is just like her original counterpart, bubbly, light hearted and playful but she ends up being little more than just a support character.
After completing everyone else's "Good" End her route starts with an alternate retelling of the Aoba massacre where Hisao is able to save everyone in the 1082nd only to be 'killed' himself.
Shiina is the only one who indulges in Hisao's fantasies of another world where humanity lives on Earth and aren't space nomads.
Route "Bad/Good" End: As the last two humans left in the universe, Shiina and Hisao share one last moment in the cockpit of her crippled fighter. Hisao is unable to convince Shiina that they need to martyr their relationship and memories to save humanity. The remains of the support fighter drifts through space as all the stars in space slowly blink out of existence leaving nothing but the fighter driting in the dark.

Route True End: As the last two humans left in the universe Misha and Hisao resolve to make one last sacrifice. Misha decides to bet on this other world that Hisao has told her about, hoping that if it does exist that they'll meet again.
Misha resets everything and the Alternative continuity fades away. It's the ultimate sacrifice, the two will meet each other again but they'll never fall in love.
Dimensional Paradox: It's through Hisao in KS:Alt that Shiina is actually nicknamed "Misha" in the original continuity by everyone else, the single lasting sign that managed to survive through the dimensional reset of their devotion to one another.

Chitose Iwanako

Additional Details: Chitose Iwanako in the standard Katawa Shoujo timeline was the cause of Hisao's sudden heart attack. It's strongly implied that Iwanako and Hisao had pretty good chemistry and might have made a wonderful couple were it not for Hisao's weak heart. Iwanako is never seen again beyond the opening scene.
In KS:Alt Iwanako was Nakai's second in command in his original unit and the cause of his heart failure was a result of her misjudging a maneuver thus crashing into Hisao's mecha.
In the wake of Hisao's absence Iwanako is forced to step up to the role of Squadron Leader and finds herself consumed by the fact that "It's all her fault" and under intense questioning as to wether the accident wasn't quite an 'accident'.
Chitose is a devoted pilot and capable in her role, bettering herself constantly so that no one else in her care be brought to harm due to her negligence or inability.
Route "Bad" End: Hisao just like everyone else ends piles up more pressure on Iwanako, believing her to be the key to finding a way home. Unable to let go of the fact that Iwanako seems to be responsible for 'killing' him in which ever world he's in Hisao develops a deep mistrust of her that develops to a level beyond paranoia.
Hisao becomes utterly loopy as he's complete taken with the idea that killing Iwanako will let him go back. In Operation Tian Hisao takes his chance to 'reset' the world and engages in combat with Iwanako. Iwanako initially puts up a fight but then accepts that it's all her fault and allows Hisao to kill her. The final scene is simply a fade to black with the words "Sorry."

Route "Good" End: Hisao's interactions with Iwanako are generally more caring and forgiving. He genuinely believes that his injury was caused purely through fault and tries to keep the accusations drawn away from Iwanako. Iwanako admits that Hisao is important to her, beyond the level of subordinate and commanding officer but the two are unable to reciprocate each other's feelings as Operation Tian becomes priority.
Near the closing stages of Operation Tian the 1082nd work closely with the 245th allowing Hisao to tell Iwanako that if he had died he would want nothing more than Iwanako to be happy no matter what and to never blame herself for anything she did.
The 245th would be wiped out along with Hisao at the end of Operation Tian as he tries to single handedly rescue the besieged squadron.
Dimensional Paradox: In Katawa Shoujo, Hisao remarks that Iwanako eventually looses interest in him and their lives drift apart further alienating him from the 'normal life' he once had.
This so called selfish act is a minor echo from Hisao's wish for Iwanako to never blame herself for what happened to him, to be truly happy with or without him. Although deceptively a shallow act she is merely responding to Hisao's protective feelings from beyond this dimension telling her to move on.

Are people complaining about Shizune completely forgetting about that archetype? You know, bossy class reps who are super serious about their job? I can't be the only one who loves those.

Uhh, if any of you bothered to play Shizune's route, you would stumble through the moment where Misha tells you that she met Shizune at the school, and they became friends because they could understand each other. Therefore, she wasn't "hired" by Shizune, she just does it because she wants to.

It's also not a mental disability, in the FAKKU's Q&Q the devs mentioned that none of the students had any sort of mental problems, and that a different school would be needed for such.

In the final game, after all five main routes + the hidden Kenji route are completed, another six Alter routes will open up, giving the True End to each of the routes that the player went through previously.

Hanako is not ashamed of her scars, she is very bad at keeping secrets and is incredibly paranoid that, if she becomes too comfortable around someone, she will accidentally let slip the fact that she caused the fire that scarred her. Intentionally. When she lets this slip, she panics and runs away--and that night, she burns down the school, starting the fire right outside Hisao's dorm, killing him.

She previously revealed this info to Lilly, a serial killer who takes advantage of her disability to draw suspicion away from herself. In Lilly's Alter Route, she blackmails Hanako into attempting to kill Hisao and Shizune, unbeknown to the player. Hanako succeeds in killing Shizune and the fire she sets in Hisao's dorm claims Kenji's life, but she is caught and shot by the police as she flees. The game ends as Hisao, attempting to comfort Lilly over the loss of her friend, finds himself run through his heart by the blade hidden in Lilly's cane.

The thalidomide poisoning that Rin suffered in the womb left her with not just disfigured hands, but a disfigured brain. She is slowly developing paranoid schizophrenia. Emi manages to coax her into a rooftop lunch, but secretly brings Hisao there for what is by then old times' sake. Feeling conspired against, Rin leaps through the unrepaired section of the fence attempting to escape and dies.

As Hisao learns sign language, Misha becomes less and less necessary in Shizune's route, leading the two to grow apart. Misha is reluctant to accept this, and begins stalking the two and threatening Hisao. The route ends as Hisao enters Shizune's dorm to find her breathing heavily with an enraged look on her face, standing over a bloodied Misha's corpse. She frantically signs "SELF DEFENSE! SELF DEFENSE!", splattering blood on Hisao, who flees and, in his panicked state, has a heart attack before he can uncover the whole truth.

In Emi's route, the enthralled Hisao sneaks across campus to her dorm one night to hear a mysterious pound. Hisao peeks in the window to see Emi, furious with tears in her eyes, righting herself and once again attempting to walk without the use of her prosthetics. Hisao sneaks away and finds Emi acting chipper as ever the next day; disturbed, Hisao spies on her nightly from then on as she continues to fail at her attempts at walking, spiraling down into self-abuse, bludgeoning and cutting her stumps in furious bouts of self-hatred. Eventually he is caught spying on Emi and assumed to be a peeping tom. He is sent to prison, where he is shivved in the spine and killed.

Kanji's route ends in exactly the same manner as the main game. THE FEMINIST CONSPIRACY IS REAL. THEY ARE AFTER US.

Izumi Nishizawa

Role: Ranking Ordnance Officer for the 1082nd.
Injuries and Augmentations: Complete blindness, right eye. Augmentation via Beyond-Light para-psychic sensors.
Additional Details: Izumi Nishizawa plays little more than a cameo in the standard Katawa Shoujo timeline, being seen only in a panning shot of Hisao's class in that continuity and nothing more.
In Alternative Nishizawa is responsible for arming and maintaining the weaponry of the 1082nd along with the other lower ranking Ordnancemen under her command and ends up being Hisao's go to girl for deciding armaments and equipment for operations beyond Shizune's tactical forecasts.
Route: Nishizawa does not have a route, sharing little more than camaraderie with Hisao.
Eventual Death: She is one of the first Yamaku crew members killed during the Sol operation and her role is taken over by 'The Nurse' in the closing stages of the final act.
Dimensional Paradox: There is no dimensional paradox carried over from KS:Alt to KS.

Additional Details: Yui Kamihiro, like Izumi Nishizawa, is only given a single screen of exposure as one of Hisao's newest classmates at the Yamaku school and no lines.
In Alternative, Kamihiro is the overall ranking non commissioned officer of the 1082nd maintenance team. She is chiefly concerned with ensuring both Humanoid Modules and the support fighter are structurally sound and are in perfect working order as machines.
Route: Kamihiro does not have a route, isn't it sad saachin?.
Eventual Death: Kamihiro would be killed in the late stages of the Sol operation. She volunteers to space walk on the outer hull of the Yamaku to free Hisao's humanoid module from the hull of the ship during the battle. She accomplishes her final mission only to be exposed to direct sunlight and is burnt to cinders.
Dimensional Paradox: There is no dimensional paradox carried over from KS:Alt to KS.

On Shizune's route, you find out that Shizune is actually a really nice person, and that Misha was acting as an evil intermediary, deliberately mistranslating all conversation between Shizune and the outside world to achieve her own aims. The protagonist covertly learns sign language and has his first real conversation with Shizune, and they mutually discover Misha's treachery.
