that doesn't offend japs if offends buddhists in general because they do that with the things they burn for dead people. Doing that at the table represents that you're offering food for the dead which is disrespectful as they interpret it as you want them dead.

>> No.2639225

Do japs really get seriously offended if you break the etiquette?

Most people do behave according the etiquette by default so the only time it becomes relevant is when you purposely want to insult someone.

It's actually pretty much gone beyond trivial buddhist superstition. That may be the root, but now the manners are observed for manners-sake. Kinda like Victorian England had shitloads of trivial table manners, while these days the only remaining ones are "don't speak with food in your mouth" (Japs don't have this one) and "don't put your elbows on the table" (Japs don't have this either)

What are those things? There are only bears for Russia in this list, but they chances of encounter them in reality are virtually zero, and they probably be harmless, when spiders are everywhere (I killed two yesterday at house). Also, there is no scorpions here.

Yes, I'm of normal middle-europe and I must say at least in my family it was way stricter than that.

I do not know what the american standard is but I would get my ass whooped for sitting imaprorately or speaking in too loud or unpolite manner during dinner. For treachery such as speaking while eating or playing with food I would get the closet treatment.

Yes, in america having basic politeness is considered as savagery and being an obnoxious idiot is social virtue. This much is apparent.

Kids are animals and unless you teach them the rules of the society they will continue to behave like animals for the rest of their days. Earning the respect of an animal. And this is what most americans are, a herd of wild monkeys without any decency or intelligence.
