Every Alice thread (regardless of anon OP or trip OP) is always a you-know-what.

I think Alice is the only Touhou who's fan portrayal has deviated significantly from the original. Everyone else is more or less consistent in personality, give or take a few sexual organs. As for other fanon things I hate, Yukkuris are probably up there with stuttering Alice, especially Yukkuri guro.

Ironically though, the only Yukkuri guro doujin I've enjoyed was about Alice, of all people, taking care of a Marisa-type yukkuri. I forget the name of it but basically the yukkuri befriends the Patchouli and Reimu yukkuri types and Alice, in a fit of jealousy, kills both yukkuris in front of the Marisa-yukkuri. In a twist of fate (or perhaps out of a subversive desire for revenge), the Marisa-yukkuri beheads the real Reimu and Marisa (how she does this is beyond me) and brings them as "special guests" to Alice's next dinner party so Alice "won't be lonely anymore." It's a pretty good read and in classical fashion, the yukkuris are killed in a highly comical way.

Still, I think if stuttering Alice and yukkuris were wiped from the face of the earth, Touhou would be in much better shape.

The Anon who was writing a story about Mokou sleeping over at Kaguya's mansion comes to mind here. He was one of the people spinning yarns in the Original Content threads, and had even published a passable manuscript of his work.
Others have done similar things of the sort, and it goes without saying that most of the written OC /jp/ has produced falls under the broad definition of 'fanfiction' - a term used to describe stories about characters or settings written by fans of the original work. There is no such thing as 'serious fanfiction'. Fanfiction is fanfiction.

I'm mostly taking this position to just say that Cirno playing an idiot and relying on her stupidity for humor isn't necessarily a bad thing at all times, and should be taken, like most doujinshi, on a case-by-case basis rather than just saying "all portrayals of her similar to this are terrible". There's a difference between Shakespearean "fools" and Shakespearean comic reliefs. The jester in King Lear, for example, often gives the king sound advice concerning his daughters and seems to actually be the most intelligent one in the entire play. Even though his advice is cloaked in jest, he still speaks with a noble tongue (evidenced by the consistent blank iambic pentameter) and much of what he says is layered with double meaning or irony.

Contrast this with the grave-diggers in Hamlet who really are nothing more than comic reliefs, their presence serving no higher purpose than being a break in the action right before the climax of the play. Their speech, accordingly, is written in normal prose, still elegant relative to how average (real) people spoke but extremely lackluster compared to the blank verse of other characters.

Say what you will about ZUN's artwork, but at the end of the day, everything fan-based that is produced under the Touhou label is essentially a "cover" of the original. It can be a very well made and superbly executed cover (like Hendrix covering Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower") but ultimately one has to realize that without ZUN, there would be no Touhou and as a result, any fanworks are inherently inferior to the original.

When dedicated fans levy criticism at ZUN's artwork, its generally out of love, not some misplaced belief that someone "could do better". They acknowledge that it's quite a feat to do programming, music composition, character design, writing, and artwork for a game all by yourself, especially while under the influence of alcohol. Newer fans however, especially of the IOSYS variety, tend to look at ZUN's artwork and see it as "inferior" to fan-produced works, judging the entirety of his work at face value and not realizing that everything you see belongs to him. THAT is what pisses me off.

Since you're incapable of forming your own opinions and stance on a subject, let me impart my own view on the subject.

Canon is the skeleton upon which you must place the flesh of your work upon.
Canon is what structures and defines the Touhou universe - if we disregard it wholly, then we might as well be talking about something other than the Touhou Project.
One should not limit themselves to the canonical works, but they are not to be disregarded entirely. It serves a very important purpose.

Touhou doujinshi is just that-- it's fanfiction and covers of the original. I say covers specifically because all IOSYS music (and Silver Forest, Innocent Key, etc) are covers of the original scores, written by ZUN.

I think a better comparison would be between Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" and the original book written by Charles Dodgeson (aka Lewis Carroll). The original book had much more depth (and intellectual substance) and as a creative feat, was much harder to create than the cartoon version to follow almost a century later. The Disney version, by contrast, was much more polished and highly produced work, but it lacked any creativity whatsoever, stealing wholesale from the original work. Anyone who favors the Disney version over the original either needs to grow up or die in a fucking fire.

Now, it's completely fine for someone's initial exposure to Alice in Wonderland to be through Disney, so long as that interest invariably leads them to the source material. But fuck anyone that takes the Disney version as being the "superior" one.
