Finished this guy's route in Sanzen Sekai Yuugi. It wasn't bad for R18 otome but I'm not sure I bought his and MC's romance. I also didn't buy his turn to ultra smooth gigachad in the ero scene. I wish MC had dommed him instead but she was a total dead fish too bad.

IMO the designs looked best when done by the original character designer where I think it almost works. The style is pretty simple which means the busy outfits don't overload you as much and the colour palette they used isn't as muddy either. I don't mind giving characters physical flaws, but if they praise the characters on just those but keep the love interests the same dime a dozen archetypes or the impairments don't actually matter (i.e. classic Dororo or TGT), then there's no real point in saying they're meaningfully "different". It's kind of like people praising an isekai for "not being like the rest" because they start off hated or weak but being just as bland once they start levelling up.

Matsuda and Mitsugi's backstories, their actual ending after getting off the island (Takara got that in the original game), important details about the distant past stuff etc, and all those POV bits giving us the characters' inner thoughts, not to mention Hongou and Shimada's vignettes.
Without the fandisk it's just half a story, it seemed like a poorly-written mess when in fact it's quite kino when you have all the information.
I mean maybe not all of that was strictly necessary (I had sort of figured out what was revealed in the POV scenes for example, though I wasn't certain of my conjectures until it was stated clearly) and it would have been difficult to fit everything while avoiding spoiling the other routes, but I really wish I had played the fandisk right away after finishing the game.

I wonder if Pigeon Blood's poor reception is the cause of Paradise's design choices. PB managed to cram everything in one game but people complained that it was too long and it was a drag to play the other routes after clearing the mystery and so on, so I could accept that they decided to cut a lot from Paradise and push it to the fandisk to keep it tight and suspenseful. Then again Shingakkou managed to fit everything in one game AND stay fresh.
It might also be the Cage guy's influence, because Cage had much the same problem, you were sort of wandering around blindly in Open and Cage Close actually revealed what the fuck is going on.

Finished Sombre Dimanche. Really atmospheric, quite depressing, and I felt like the sound effects and music were used well. There were a couple evenings where I couldn't bring myself to play late into the night because it creeped me out, but I was still engrossed in it overall to the point that I thought about reading it when I couldn't. Stories with this kind of subject matter can easily become trite or hammy but I thought this did pretty well. Intentional cloudiness aside, it was very and satisfying to be able to think back to earlier points and realize why certain things were the way they were. I also didn't expect the circumstances of the whole wolf/rabbit thing to impact me as much as it did. Lengthwise I thought it was just about perfect, if it had gone on any longer then it wouldn't have been as good.

Like the other doujin game I played a few weeks ago, Majo no Shokeibi, it had a happier "bad ending" than true ending. Still, I felt very satisfied when the true end showed that the MC had killed his father. Good for him, good for him. I'd been waiting for that the whole ride. I also enjoyed how the many, many bad ends had some story to them and weren't just "YOU DIED"


The two games also share a stock track, which I thought was amusing.
